Why is everyone pointing this out now, when five laps are added? It's only five laps.

The Bud Shootout has been 70 laps since 2001.

He's got a point. Unless there's debris or a wreck (wrecks really don't happen all that often in the shootout these days) the field is gonna be strung out as hell at the end of those 50 laps.

The "New" Bud Shootout format sucks. I'll agree with Jr. and say the final segment is way to long but I also think only allowing drivers based on car makes is crazy. I liked it when guys like Blaney etc, who snuck out a pole got a chance to participate in this race.

If I'm honest, even though it was cool that we potentially had a few unusual drivers in the Shootout, this format makes more sense from a commercial point of view. Quali's a lottery these days, and the fans want to see the best drivers, not Paul Menard and Patrick Carpentier. The balance of manufacturers is probably necessarily really. Besides, 2 MWR cars, Labonte and the 28 are potentially still in there. However, the fact that Stewart, Newman and Bowyer may will miss out isn't good - you'd have thought they could wangle some loophole to get them in

I do think they should've perhaps reintroduced the qualifying race, though - 5 from each manufacturer and then the top 4 drivers from a sprint quali race perhaps

But at least the race is still going, something which might not have been the case. Be thankful for that

Anyone think Coors will come up it's own race for polesitters?

Not a fan of the new format. Old one was better.

Probably not, the schedule's packed enough as it is. When/where could they hold it?

Not really surprising news, but still good to see him back, especially after his great nationwide season.

Alltel? Aren't they supposed to get their a** kicked to the curb by Sprint at the end of the year? Or did the Verizon deal fell through?

On a slight side note, I miss the way the All-star was as well. (aka. The Winston) I don't think I watched it this year just because of the format.

It's Ironic that Jeff Burton's Sponsor for 2009 will be Cat, which was the same sponsor that his brother drove for years.

Effective immeditaly, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will begin using the tapered spacer as in the Nationwide series. Just read that off NASCAR.com... As if things couldn't get worse...

I believe that they have been running a version of the tapered spacer all year. I have heard that this rule change will only affect the Toyota's.
