This story about John Wes Townley's death took a turn in a hurry once the details came out. This is one of the craziest stories involving a current or former racing driver I've seen in a long time.

The idiots in charge still think OEM's will come crawling in with the current spec of engines neutered

Larry Mac is actually on the broadcast providing commentary at the moment.

They just mentioned on the stream that the intermediate tracks will still have the 550HP and 8-inch spoiler. So fucking annoying.

Wide open throttle racing at intermediates is here to stay :(

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

Here's hoping they actually build engines for that power rather than an overly powerful engine with add-ons to restrict airflow, thus cutting power...

It's the only way to justify 550hp/675hp.

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

If I understood what Larry Mac was saying, the engine stuff is basically the same (pretty much the only piece that isn't going to be entirely new next year).

Though I suppose there is the potential for the manufacturers to channel their engine building with this in mind since NASCAR is apparently fully committed to it now.

Whatever the case, that's pretty much the death of intermediate racing once and for all. I'm assuming they'll be able to run in tighter packs if the aero changes deliver, but that's still not at all what I want to see.

Maybe NASCAR will just leave the Xfinity cars alone for a long time so we can still see something resembling proper racing on those tracks.

engines will be the same until like 2024 or 2025 when they move to a new platform (i.e. the window for OEM's to join) & add in hybrids.

the cars look way too planted. i like that they're symmetrical which will reward more skilled drivers, i just wish they'd get the downforce at or below 1000lbs

Might as well. Nothing will truly help the racing at Charlotte until the pavement actually wears - which well, might take 4 ice ages, 3 world wars and 2 volcanic eruptions to maybe make a dent towards that

Not even an earthquake will damage the surface. It's as smooth as a baby's bum and has been since the day it was done 15 years ago.

Doesn't sound too bad.

The main thing is to make almost all the races shorter. Just have a handful of longer ones.

The original Winston Million races (Daytona 500, Talladega 500 Spring Race, Coke 600 and Southern 500) should remain unchanged. The rest, do as you please.

looks like mid 15 second laps towards the end of the video.

Kinda surprised how similar the NextGen car sounds to the Modifieds at the venue honestly
