Nepotism is probably why he got a ride at Penske originally, but he’s more than earned his place and promotion after that.

Cindric to the 2 doesn't surprise me as he's shown more than enough talent to deserve that ride, nepotism or not. Burton to the 21 on the other hand is hella confusing. Can't see why you'd replace MattyD for him but then again, can't really be too sad to see an anti-vaccination tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorist lose his position of influence.

Burton's sponsor has been linked with Penske for a few years now, so I assume that opened some doors

MattyD has been underachieving since replacing Paul Menard. That move made sense. But, more importantly, it shows that the Toyota developmental driver program is a lot like the WWE:

completely bloated

Unfortunately, due to Corona-chan being a yandere yet again, NASCAR has reinstated the mask mandate for indoor locations (hauler interiors, suites, garages, etc.) Masks optional for outdoors, but distancing is recommended. Conglaturation.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has pledged $10 million dollars (each) to North Wilkesboro Speedway and Rockingham Speedway for upgrades & repairs, as part of state money from the American Rescue Plan

notable differences from the proposed budget by the governor:
$10 mil more to Wilkesboro
$5 mil more to Charlotte
$5 mil less for the event opportunities grant; restricted to tracks under NASCAR, NHRA or IHRA sanction & NASCAR Cup venues that has hosted races from September 29, 1996 to present (aka the Wilkesboro & Rockingham loophole)
local tracks split off into their own grant; only $1 mil
racing & moonshine cultural trail deleted

Budget negotiations still ongoing by the political leaders here in NC

North Wilkesboro had another clean-up day. The various local fire departments went out of their way & contacted SMI to do it.

edit:

it appears the local John Deere dealer is also working with the track on supplying equipment. Recent photos show pretty much all of the overgrowth on the 421 side has been cut down. Another rumor going around about the place getting dug up & completely repaved down the road (fall of 2022)

current rumors for new tracks on Cup schedule in 2022 include either Gateway and a Bowman Gray remake in the LA Coliseum

while I had the same initial thought in regards to stock cars, the Coliseum did have AAA sanctioned midget racing back in the day
