I personally would have no problem with that.

My issue is that NASCAR assumes that most of the west coast fanbase go to church in the late morning (or at least that's what I think, all things considered).

I think NASCAR should reach an agreement with God, and reschedule mass to Sunday evening.

Ironically it would take an act of God to fix all of NASCAR's problems at this point.

according to Jenna Fryer, 23XI has acquired a charter for the #45 car

NC state budget for 2021 is taking another corner - with a possible vote by the end of next week. If it does get passed, we could have some news on the future of North Wilkesboro & Rockingham in the near future. On the case of North Wilkesboro: SMI now has a website & web store for the track.

Rebuilt how is the question. And I'd take the Roval over regular Charlotte at this point. But bringing NW back is a major positive.

rebuilt/renovated?
If the motorsports portion of the bill remains in the "conference budget" (likely as it has broad support from both the governor & the legislature; should be revealed to the media + public tomorrow according to recent reports) + general assembly votes/passes said budget (possibly on Thursday?) & either the governor signs it, lets it become law without a signature (after 10 days) or gets defeated with a veto-override (likely as there is enough democrats that will join with the republican majority on the vote for a variety of reasons - between the state not having a budget in multiple years & general infrastructure projects in their districts), then this is likely the plan.

How far it's rebuilt/upgraded/renovated remains to be seen, but recent rumors suggest that it could have racing by the summer of 2022 & will be a pavement track in the long-term future (alot of the partners / groups wanting to do non-motorsport events at the facility want it paved)
'
the other half of the statement?
I don't see SMI replacing the ROVAL - it's been way too successful & they've put too much money into that track for it to happen. IMO they do need to make some changes to keep that success sustainable though (this year's crowds were a bit less, of course it was during a pandemic + a season with much more limited on track activity (each day only had 1 thing on track, which is pretty poor for a road course - granted it's NASCAR and they do the same shit at Watkins Glen every year) + NFL/CFB season w/ Panthers playing at home but I digress)

I also don't see the NC governor being too happy if that was the case. While it was removed by the legislature in the house & senate bills, the governor originally had notions in his budget for all 3 tracks (Charlotte, Rockingham & Wilkesboro) to add 3 to 5 new events to each of their venues as apart of the funding / grants. Also remember that Charlotte is slated for $10 or $15 million in upgrades as well

I also don't see SMI removing any of their current tracks (under their ownership or through the Dover acquisition) from the NASCAR schedule for Wilkesboro either. I know alot of folks have been doom/gloom on Dover - but I think the casino / sports betting links is big reason why they purchased the facility, especially with Atlanta's proposed casino project currently in limbo / awaiting approval by Georgia's state government.

In regards to a Cup date there - it's still gonna need some MAJOR help from NC DOT (which I expect them to do between the state budget & the national infrastructure bill) with a proper highway exit off of 421 (like what they did with Charlotte / I-85 exit 49 back in the late 90's with the Concord Mills development) so that it's not a complete nightmare for big events w/ 25k+ people. Not saying that it's not impossible (as they had Cup there w/ that level of crowds back in the 90's). Rockingham (despite being in the middle of nowhere) frankly is easier on a start-up for a top 3 date in that regard, as the highway out front was widened (literally the year or 2 after the truck date went away)

maybe if your flying a damn helicopter?

both Wilkesboro & Rockingham are around 1 hour & 45 minutes from uptown Charlotte - and that's not accounting for traffic / dependent on the route you take - either the hellscape that is I-77 to get towards 421 & Wilkesboro or the 25 or 35 MPH speed limits through small towns to Rockingham

Mike Harmon ran some laps w/ a current spec Xfinity car at Rockingham last weekend. (didn't DGM & Labbe get in trouble for doing exactly this at Daytona road course during a SCCA event?)

Really hope they do some pack testing. Every time they come up with changes to the cars to improve racing, all you see all day long is just single-car runs. And then everyone's surprised when the aero push factor is even higher next time they race.

I'm sure NASCAR will be pressuring them to get out there in groups. They've done that before. It's obviously not usually led to any intelligent changes but FWIW they do tend to run together.

They're probably going to be running all day long for the next two days, so I would imagine there will be time for the teams to try stuff alone and in traffic.

I know that this is just testing, but I don't like all that leaved open walls where roval track was joining.

Erik Jones just blew a left rear in the second dogleg. Was able to keep it straight but that would have been a wreck if it had happened just a second later.
