I saw one clip of Earnhardt saying this car does "everything better" than the current cars. That...is not encouraging from a fan's perspective.

those next gen cars look like they picked the worst from touring cars and the worst from stock cars and blended together in a very generic package

if you strip the decals off the front end could be more likely a Dodge Charger than a Mustang or Camaro

so basically australian v8 supercars, which is what they were going for lol

i like that the cars are no longer set up to favor the right side of the car, i just wish they'd get rid of all the downforce

the main things that bugs me about the NextGen car is the safety fears w/ the chassis (hopefully the new clips can handle impacts better), the amount of jobs that will be lost because of this car - with likely no cost savings in the end (even tho cost savings was the "excuse" to layoff most folks in the shops), the small sidewalls on the tires (will be much harder to catch slides), how much aero these things have & the fact that "we like what we are seeing / lets limit horsepower in hopes of IRL pack racing" crap.

the CoTF/Gen2 V8's were already too damn heavy on downforce numbers - so what does NASCAR do? take that & add even more with a rear diffuser :yuk:

(*tinfoilhat* the whole "we like what we are seeing" jargon makes me think there's a insurance issue afoot - which I feel is believable when taking into account "the Michigan test" had 225+ MPH trap speeds & insurance keeping top speeds down below 200 for IMSA at Daytona's road course */tinfoilhat*)

I have no issues with the power hampering they've been doing, but the downforce issue is for yesterday

cars with less downforce usually generate better racing on speedways

We're in dark times when some actuary somewhere is dictating the terms of our racing :(

Feels like if they had any class, they'd be syphoning a percentage of those t-shirt sales or whatever else they're selling with the slogan on to the poor, underfunded family team that shares their values

But it's never about the little guy is it.... :slaphead:

I was thinking that when I saw that bit of the story. Kinda sucks that he's catching backlash for it.

And not even his fault, too. Just some dumbass fans decided to take any form of significance/attention away from him to themselves.

NBC didn't help matters, either (and, again, not entirely their fault, they just handled it poorly).

The whole incident made international news, and even THAT didn't help him.

They can't let go of that west coast audience, sadly.

Which means you should prepare to stay up until 1am for the Daytona 500 again when it inevitably gets rain-delayed after 5 laps despite the fact that the damn race would've been done by 3pm, much less getting started.

A 1 PM ET start would mean a 10 AM start in the West Coast. I don't think that's too bad. To have the race over shortly after 1 is great, as you have the rest of the day to do something fun.
