Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I wonder how many would have benefited by this extra time at Daytona.

was this not a concern with testing before this gen car actually came in action?

There was alot of concern over the last 2 1/2 to even 3 years now - especially among industry folk.

First post about the car's safety concerns in this thread was after the Steve Hmiel tweet last year - there was rumors prior to that; and then DBC went into discussion about Byron's Fontana testing crash being way harder than usual - either right before COVID hit or during the Chris Rice episode.

It seems like the only ones who don't seem to care are NASCAR itself. They forced the teams to spend millions only for it to be tossed away in the name of the marketed "Big One" that will be replayed for decades to come.

Ive never seen drivers so vocal about a gen car being unsafe.

Thinking about it the cot platform (the later versions without that superflip the car on its roof spoiler when spinning backwards) was the best platform nascar had.
I remember drivers had their complaints but that was more about driveability.
That cot platform was build with safety in mind.

Now imagen Austin Dillon/Ryan Newman's crashes at daytona or Mcdowell's at texas with this gen.
It could/would be fatal, but hey atleast the car would look good with little damage (broken toe link) on the exterior side.. nascar logic.

I wonder what the drivers will do if that happens.
I mean racing is dangerous but driving a higher potential deathtrap is a whole other level.

"the cot platform was the best platform nascar had" you mean from a safety standpoint? cuz it raced like shit

also, i don't think the way this car is injuring drivers (concussions, which can be fatal) necessarily translates into fatalaties in the dillon/newman/mcdowell crashes. i think newmans crash has the same outcome. dillon's motor separating and the cushion/give in the fence is likely what prevented dillon getting injured, so i don't see anything differently there. but maybe with the new car mcdowell's impact is heightened by a faster decelleration from the stiffer car, which could lead to a possible concussion or internal bruising in the body or even potentially some compression fractures in the ribs, spine or collarbone. still, unless his HANS completely fails he still probably walks away. the new car races great (except at short tracks so far) but yes, it definitely has increased the potential for concussions because of the stiffness of the chassis. that is definitely cause for concern, but it doesn't mean fatalz

In the case of Harvick's fire, it's not caused by faulty parts, despite what Harv and Rodney Childers wants you to think (in the heat of the moment, of course)

Bozi broke down on what's actually causing the fire to begin with. Fairly long thread, but worth your time

The solution, as he pointed out, is more complex than it seems, so it's not a simple swap job. Also need to keep in mind that Darlington's surface is notoriously abrasive, so of course there's gonna be more marbles on the track.

Correct i ment indeed from a safety standpoint.
The complaines from what i remember where more about drivebility it drove/raced terrible.

Its the first year of this new car so maybe over time they (nascar) filter out the quircks eventually.

it'll be interesting to see if they can, and if they can without ruining the raceability. stiffness was built into the design, so if they have to change it they're gonna have the same supply-line issues they had at the beginning of the year. the teams invested a lot to adapt the new chassis' and the owners won't be happy if they have to start over. if it goes that far you might even lose a couple of the smaller teams. that's worst case scenario, so hopefully it doesn't get to that

I was really excited to see the news that North Wilkesboro is hosting the All-Star Race next year. If you told me 5 years ago that this was even a possibility, I would have thought you were crazy. Now I'm really looking forward to seeing this.
