so a bunch of state senators locally here in North Carolina + along with the NC Speaker of the House are pressuring NC Governor Roy Cooper on allowing NASCAR teams / Charlotte Motor Speedway into the essential business list

Florida has already asked NASCAR about racing at Daytona & Homestead, and today Gov. Abbott of Texas did the same with TMS

North Carolina still has a limited testing capacity problem, and some models (Uni of PA) state that the peak for Charlotte won't be until June 8th

Gov. Cooper has the brakes on the idea

Man I'd hate to see the outcome if they opened this shit up too early for the sole reason to put live sport on television. Not only for the people within the sport, but the trickle down effect outside of it.

yeah, seems irresponsible to go with live NASCAR events (crowd or not) without consulting the medical officials first. Just reeks of desperation.

I’d rather watch Larren Wallace and those remote controlled boats.

if the NC Governor changes the regulations for NASCAR teams by May 7th (teams need about 9 days to get ready), the earliest the series will return is May 17th at Darlington

Trump voters are literally parading with guns in protest of the covid-19 lockdown, is anyone really surprised NASCAR wouldn't take it seriously either?

For the first time, its not the threat of guns that means no-one wants to come near them

I guess they're free as anyone to kill themselves, be it with firearms or the virus, but when they then come near their grandma in a care home, they might regret not listening to the damn experts

Some people just won't be told anything, even if its the truth

America's right wing is the most deluded bunch of folks I've ever seen. The amount of utter tripe they willingly swallow belies that they actually have a human brain inside their skulls.

Darlington plans on hosting a spring race now

unclear what happens to the Southern 500, but there is several states where it appears racing w/out fans will not be allowed in 2020 (Sonoma being one of them)

I guess that would mean the Roval race is kaput.

I don't see why it wouldn't happen on its scheduled date in October. I would expect that the second race in May is an extra race for the track for this year.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

i'd think they are extras

there's going to be a few tracks where they can't host their races due to scheduling / government regs

Ryan Newman plans to go back racing whenever NASCAR starts back up. NASCAR officials state that he hasn't been medically cleared yet however

Easiest path forward for NASCAR is to run double headers at the tracks that either have two dates and can't come back for the second, or just have the ability to run two races in quick succession, especially if they have lights. Shorten the races by 100-200 miles, run doubles. For instance, when they go to Texas, you could run one 300 mile race on Friday night (do everything in one day), Xfinity/Truck double header Saturday, come back and run a 400 miler on Sunday.

So and so forth. If we get a second wave in the fall (forgone conclusion isn't it?) then it's all out the window anyway.
