"fans & drivers need to stop asking for more power because NASCAR is not gonna listen, and is looking at further horsepower decreases (regarding solely the internal combustion engine component) in hopes of getting more engine mileage & thus cost cutting from it"

"looking at grooved tires to decrease grip"

Well... Look on the brightside... Since the new car is such a pile of shit with the rearward impact, adding more power, which in turn would lead to faster lap times and harder crashes, would be a bad thing.

So, instead of fixing the car to actually crumble and not transfer the load to the driver, NASCAR has decided to slow the cars down. The change is of course to generate more "show" and "save money" and not on safety grounds, but hey, why sell only one dumb idea when you can package it at a discount and sell multiple.

Grooved tires... Fuck it, just give them DOT rubber. Goodyear builds Z rated tires. Slap those on there. Has the added benefit of being able to race in the rain without a tire change.

I loved NASCAR so much 20-25 years ago... Now I don't even recognize it. NASCAR is a tremendous example of leadership not knowing how to operate the business they inherited. All the more amazing since right across the aisle, IMSA is showing them how it's to be done. Not that IMSA doesn't have it's own issues, but they're on the cusp of enjoying a second golden age of big time road racing and giving the fans pretty much what they want. Multiple factory prototypes, multiple factory GT3's, all duking it out on the grandest stages.

This is the Split in reverse, just without the actual Split. Indycars fall was met with NASCAR's rise... Now it's NASCAR on the fall. Indycar, your time is now to strike, so you too stop making stupid decisions. You have an opportunity here to claw back plenty of market share if you just go back to what always worked.

My joke awhile back about NASCAR's new car being stock car themed go-karts is leaning more towards reality and less joke, sadly. Going slower and slower defeats the purpose of racing. It's like telling stick and ball sports to score less.

Berry will continue to fill in for Elliott on the ovals but Jordan Taylor will be in the #9 for COTA.

Hendrick fined $400k, all teams lose 100 owner points and 10 playoff points, all but the #9 lose 100 driver points and 10 playoff points, all crew chiefs banned for a month. Same penalties applied to the #31.

https://racer.com/2023/03/15/hendrick-t ... fractions/

Dennis loses 25 driver points and $50k for actions detrimental to NASCAR.

Those Hendrik penalties don't mean a lot since there are play-offs. The 10 point penalty is the only thing that might play a part.

Clearly a big-brain move using disruptive marketing techniques to promote his podcast. This is Denny so I'm only being 85% sarcastic.

You still have to be in the top 16 in points even if you have a win to qualify for the playoffs, so depending how bad your season goes, someone like Larsen could still miss out even though he has a win.

Top 30 in points if you have a win, remember when Kyle missed races through injury. Generally if you have two wins you're safely into the playoffs and I can see the Hendrick drivers getting that, it's if there's 17+ different winners that they might be in trouble with only 1 win.

I think they removed the Top 30 rule for this year iirc.

Oh yeah they did. Seems all he needs is a waiver and no way will NASCAR deny that. Then all he needs is 2 wins or a win with only 15 others winning this season before the playoffs start.

Chase Elliott gained three spots in the points without doing anything. Since he wasn't driving the car at Phoenix, he didn't get a points penalty.

OK, this is really cool. Kevin Harvick is going to run a throwback paint scheme for the All-Star race. It's painted like the car he won his first race with in 2001.
