Dale Earnhardt Jr. was interviewed after the pack testing session and he said that the steering is a lot more sensitive in the new cars. He mentioning how drivers have to be more precise with their steering inputs with the new car compared to the old one.

As dumb as it may be, I bet they don't know what will happen if the cars get backwards with that diffuser. Remember they didn't know the cars lifted easier with the wing so it's not unheard of that they wouldn't know for sure if the new cars will stay on the ground.

185 is a reasonably safe speed so they don't get airborne. I'd rather they be about 30mph faster, but what do I know... I'm just a race fan and I'm not NASCAR's target audience.

I imagine they've done plenty of research and testing to ensure they aren't taking off at those speeds. Obviously there could be unintended consequences or mitigating factors, though I still imagine they're gonna stay grounded under most conditions.

They are way too slow though. The last couple SS packages have been straight dogshit, but at least they were still up in the 190s and touching 200 before the Logano crash last spring. Now it's just a pack of cars dragging an anchor. At least they only do this shit four times a year.

The good news is that they have a diffuser flap system to help block it when the car goes backward.

The pack racing looks decent so far, but they are awfully slow. I don't see the problem with these cars hitting 195-200mph. I've got a feeling nascar is going to play it safe at first. They don't want flipperz and airbornez on their next gen debut

Day 2 speeds.

Everyone picked up a little, but those two outliers on top makes me wonder if the tandem is back. Or maybe they were just running some crazy setup shit that wouldn't pass tech on a normal race weekend. Around lunch time the 43 was running an insane amount of rear skew to test its effect. A writer on Twitter mentioned that the rules only allow a +/- 0.30 degree rear skew.

I listened to an interview Joey Logano did in a media session, and he talked about the differences in drafting with this car vs the gen 6. He noted that there's a bit more drag, so you hit a bigger wall of air when you pull out of the draft. On the flip side, the tandem draft does seem to work better since it's easier to get to someone's bumper and lock onto it than with the gen 6 car. However, you can't tandem for very long because a) you'll overheat, and b) the bumpers are more rounded, so it's more difficult to do it without spinning the lead car out. So I personally wouldn't be surprised if we see something like we did when they first figured out the tandem, where you'd link up to make some big moves for several seconds, then split up. I hated the tandem-only racing, but the brief tandems to make moves thing was pretty fun.

for pack racing i don't feel that top speed is as important as closing speed. if everybody is doing 205 but can't get a run on the leader we'll just end up with a single file line up against the wall. big runs force drivers to seriously consider whether or not they should risk a block. if the closing speed is too low whoever's in front will just block without much risk of finding themselves upside down in the infield

Here's that thread, it definitely sounds like the 43 team were intentionally going way past what is legal just to understand the car better and how skew affects it in general. And it's a nice breakdown on why we shouldn't see anything like that during the actual race weekend. https://twitter.com/BoziTatarevic/statu ... 8336897025

Ice Cube will perform at the Clash halftime show.

You read that correctly.

(note: the LA Coliseum track is too confined to have a proper pit road, so a halftime break is needed)

I'm sure that Rick Ware Racing did that either last year or 2020.

NASCAR chopping off 100 laps from the spring Martinsville race.

Of all the races to shorten, I think a short track shouldn't be it.

Most races there have a pretty long and dull green flag after lap 250, just saying. Well, that before stages.

All Cup races (except Daytona 1, Darlington and Brickyard) should be 300, Xfinity 250, and trucks 200, IMO.
