Anything we hadn't already heard about, other than the second Kentucky date?

No, that's pretty much it.

Guess I'll just watch the series 3 times next year for reasons that involve right turns.

I don't have an issue with them running speedways (assuming they ditch the tapered spacer and get the cars more raceable), as speedways are where the second-highest stockcar division in the country should be. I don't even have an issue with companion events, as they seem to make sense economically at times.

That being said, if they let the Cup guys continue running and with 27/33 races as companion events, the series is going to go down in flames.

They need to start by banning them Buschwhacking in standalone speedway races

Worst-case scenario would be to allow them to run the standalones, but ban them from the companion races. I mean, folks who plan on going to the Cup races are going to be at the track anyway, right?

I think I remember Ray Dunlap saying that the trucks would be running a road course next year too, anyone heard any insight on that?

Seems like I've heard some rumblings about them going to Watkins Glen possibly, but I know absolutely zero details about it or if it's even true.

Quote:
•Denny Hamlin to run Martinsville truck race for Kyle Busch: Kyle Busch Motorsports announced that Denny Hamlin will drive the team's #18 Tundra in the Kroger 200 Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway Saturday, Oct. 29. Toyota and Traxxas, the leading manufacturer of hobby-class radio-controlled vehicles, will serve as co-primary sponsors. Hamlin has posted five top-10 finishes in 11 career Truck Series starts, including two top 10s in four starts at Martinsville. His career-best result behind the wheel of a truck was a third-place finish in the 2008 E-Z Go 200 at Atlanta.(Kyle Busch Motorsports PR)(10-21-2011)

Looks like he's trying to join the "won in all three series" club.

How's this for random NASCAR discussion?

I just found out Larry Nuber is no longer living, and hasn't been for 11 years now.

A little late in finding that out, but it kinda bummed me out. :(

You know... I am thinking that at the end of the original ESPN NASCAR era, the 2000 Atlanta race, Bob Jenkins may have mentioned this and he and Nuber were featured a lot in that tribute video they played going off the air that day.

Which is surprising, because I'm not entirely sure ESPN and Nuber parted ways on the best of terms. I think it may have had to do with a near-fight that Nuber got into with Steve Chassey, on a live "Thunder" broadcast. I think they were arguing over Rich Vogler, and according to legend, there were several seconds of dead air as the two nearly got into fisticuffs. Both were sacked because of it.

Good god I hope someone has that broadcast capped.

I read about that dustup on Wikipedia, and as far as I know, it's not on YouTube. Not sure where else we'd be able to find it - unless WildTurnip can pull another rabbit out of his magic, VHS-cappin' hat? :)

This guy has a bunch of USAC stuff on YouTube. While the above incident isn't in his uploads yet, I'd guess there'd be no harm in asking:

I was wrong. After going back and watching it, Nuber was not mentioned, but was shown on the video briefly.
