BTW, yes that is NY Racing Team on the 500 entry list. Yes, they somehow still exist despite not attempting a race since 2022. Yes, their hauler is a monstrosity.

Yes, that is Greg Biffle's name on the car. No, the Biff won't be driving because he never got paid by NYRT. Oops.

It's just nothing these days, we just tune in for disappointment.

Speedweeks ain't just about the damn fendered cars on the big track in February :P

sure I'd love more on-track stuff at Daytona but I think in a totality PoV - Speedweeks is way better now these days. Only a couple days from the Roar through the 500 where there isn't any on-track activity happening in Florida (or Georgia), either it be big track, asphalt short track, dirt, the Rolex or even the pre-season drag racing stuff that popped up this year.

-

damn good to see a big field in ARCA

at this point they need to do some consi races for Xfinity again if they keep sending more cars home with the shortened fields

My annual contribution

Quote:
… 1, 2, 3, 4
Tu, tu, tu...
Here we go
Here we go
Here we go
D D A A U Y T O O E E S A
U U S S A USA
Daytona, let's go away
Daytona (Ok, go men)
Daytona, let's go away
Daytona, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go
This is your crew chief
The course is really tough
But it's a beautiful day
So good luck!
And they're under way
Yes, we're under way
And it's a beautiful day
Here at Daytona
You're falling way behind
Try to make a hole through there
You're lookin' all over the track
Now let's see some control
There's a crash coming out of Turn Three
You better watch yourself
Somebody coming up behind you
Somebody coming up behind
Watch out
Somebody coming, only seven more laps to go
Tu, tu, tu... Here we go
Forget about your attitude
Go, go, go
Better keep an eye on your time
Yeah, you're in the final stretch
Way to maneuver the car
Ah, you're lookin' good!
Yeah, you're good!
Daytona

NY Racing has returned from the dead. They don't have a driver announced but their hauler certainly stands out.

Yes, 9 days of New Smyrna, the Icebreaker at Florence, plus all the dirt track racing in WoO, USAC, High Limit, etc. This is peak season.

A couple of questions:

Why do they run shortened fields for the series that consistently get more entries than the limit? What is the purpose of the shortened field? Are the cars bigger than they used to be so there is not enough room to have 43 cars pit safely?

If the number of entries for the 500 is so low these days what is the point of the duel races? Why not just have a qualifying session determine the starting order? Or is it because another race means more opportunities to wreck cars that NASCAR can put in the adverts/highlight reels?

Also, why exactly is Greg Biffle allowed to race in NASCAR sanctioned events? Wasn't he found guilty of a gross invasion of privacy against his ex-wife that involved putting secret cameras in his house to film her doing things that I don't think I need to explain?

They could have a different rule for Daytona for sure. I think they lowered the limit of entrances to discourage the start-and-park squad. I think it was happening way too often.

The field size is probably connected to TV contracts or something and cannot just be changed on the fly. I'd love to see a huge field of 50-60 cars start at tracks where it can be managed size and pit stall wise.

Duel races - Tradition + in case the entry list is bigger than field size and eliminations would happen. Same as Indy 500's bump day, I guess.

I have some bad news:

race day may be a total washout with rain projected to last all day until 10 PM local. Because Mother Nature just wants to support her favorite form of motorsport.

This is NASCAR's punishment for being the way it is.

Precedent has been set, move the race to post Xfinity on Saturday

But DO NOT shorten either the ARCA or Xfinity distance (they will)

I'd much rather see this race on Monday afternoon (my time) than have them wait around and race late on sunday night, their time, and have it take place at about 2am here... :slaphead:

With it being a marquee event, I could see them decided early to run it Monday afternoon/evening if they don’t think they can get the thing finished in the primetime slot on Sunday.

The forecast looks like Saturday and Sunday will both be washouts. Not sure what they will do in that case.
