11th anniversary of Dan's death and Wallace resorts to a dumb intentional wreck after Larson aero pushed up. Suspend his ass.

Enough with this "he gets treated special cause he's black" bullshit. Anyone who's been a fan of this sport or followed it for more than 2 minutes knows that NASCAR is NASCAR. Unless you've got your head completely up your ass, you know it's not a sport with the most progressive fan base to say the least. I've followed this sport since 1996, have lived in Alabama and the South for some of that, and been to my fair share of NASCAR races. I had disgusting half drunken beer and half eaten hot dogs splattered all over my clothes when I was at Daytona for the night race in 2002 and the fans went ape shit because the race finished under caution and they littered the backstretch. NASCAR fans are if nothing else passionate.

BUT. Think there was a single black person at the track? Let alone a driver? I know it's not 2002 anymore, but you can't tell me Bubba has it easy or hasn't had to overcome some of that backwater bayou bullshit at some point. And for that I respect him. That cringey ass noose story was not his fault, and I never see him using his race as a trump card for anything. He has shown some driving talent and has been running consistently up front in races. And that was after all the negative shit he was getting when he wasn't running good for a while there. "He's only got a ride because he's black. Woke liberal shit" etc etc.

Until today. I'd maybe be alright with it if it was just a retaliation move, but you slam into a guy at 170, take another innocent driver out, then walk up to him and try to fight him after he just pounded the wall driver's side, then you LIE about your car being broke afterward in the interview. Come on man. Just a dumb and utterly embarrassing showing. He deserves a suspension as would anyone else in that situation.

Might as well just drive it home and stay there 'til January.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Logano wins it. The fresh tires paid off for him.

I really don't want to be THAT guy. I honesty don't.

But does anyone think, in the back of his mind, he had April 12th 2020 going through his brain, and was waiting for just the right excuse? Even a tiny bit?

No, I don't. To be that deliberate and calculating isn't really Bubba's MO. Everyone feels the need to make all of his wins and run-ins about race, but Bubba's strengths and weaknesses have nothing to do with colour or his race. He's a midfield driver that can occasionally run at the front but lacks consistency or the depth of talent to overcome an imperfect car or pit strategy. He's emotional, which is great in terms of some exciting driving sometimes, but not great in terms of acting like a butthurt child occasionally, like today. He's the modern day Jimmy Spencer. I'm glad he's in the sport and I think he deserves his seat, but he's always going to be a flawed character.

That’s awfully dramatic. I think you can do better though. See if you can tangentially tie in more dead drivers.

I've been thinking about this since I tuned out of the race to watch football.

Do I think what Bubba Wallace did is over the line? Yes. He needs to be taught a lesson the moment he laid hands on Kyle Larson. But this is NASCAR, we all know what will come out of this. They'll just hand him a six-figure fine, maybe a points deduction, but even I would be insane to think they'll lay down the Matt Kenseth sentence for that. He should be suspended, but I know they won't. To them, this is marketing content. This is something they know they can use for future races, especially when conflict or even a possibility of conflict would incur.

And even if they do the right thing and suspend him for even one race? Fans would cry bloody murder at NASCAR for doing the one thing they're extremely good at, and that's being inconsistent at a consistent basis. Some of you think this is a recent thing? Oh no, this dates way back to the "boys, have at it" doctrine. Maybe even before that. What happened in Texas sets a very bad precedent. To suspend him would make fans wonder why didn't William Byron or Ty Gibbs get banned for their shenanigans, and rightfully so.

NASCAR's damned if they do and damned if they don't. And it's all their own damn fault.

The punishment just needs to be consistent to what they’ve done to others this season for similar moves.

They could add more weight to it for him walking across the track before the safety crew arrived. I don’t think the physical confrontation warrants anything though. That was pretty tame, thankfully.

This is NASCAR, didn't see the race but considering how much mileage they're already making out of the drivers fighting, they'll probably be giving him a bonus in his paycheck for throwing hands to encourage more drivers to get scrappy when they are involved in incidents

They're loving it

I'm sure they'll have to make some nominal punishment but lets not pretend they're not secretly happy at having a good ol' fashioned scrap to liven up what was looking to be another run of the mill cookie cutter race

Wallace parked for one week. All things considered, I think that’s about right.

I think NASCAR made the right call here. Bubba deserved more than a slap on the wrist after his actions at Vegas, Having him sit and cool off for a week should send a message that stuff like that won't be tolerated. Hopefully he'll learn from this.
