Why the fuck was Chastain still there. Shocked he didn't bunch up the field and cause another pileup.

I'm going to assume the resin played a large deal with it, but have to say that was very nice to see my home track for NASCAR put on some good racing for once. Haven't been able to say that in YEARS

just wish NASCAR didn't have the stupid "competition" stage yellows and all of that other junk

wish I could of attended the Xfinity race on Saturday (got free tickets a couple months back; gave them to a friend as shit hit the fan & I couldn't get down there)

I like how we had 100 cautions and a fucking flip, and we only barely got to page 5.

I was so tired yesterday that I ended up not watching the race and went to bed before it was even remotely close to being over. I had to watch the highlights this morning. Looks like I missed out on a good one.

Seriously, it's wild that with the NextGen car that the intermediates have turned into the best tracks on the schedule. Charlotte was absolute ASS for years and years but last night's racing was great.

Between the wrecks, I thought the racing was very good. It was nice to see drivers having more than one racing line to choose from and we got quite a bit of side-by-side racing all through the field as a result.

Anybody else feel like these Next-Gen cars almost seem a little TOO stiff when they wreck? We're not seeing crumpling and parts flying like we did with older cars and it seems like drivers are complaining a lot more about soreness and things after hard hits. See Bubba at Talladega. The cars just look like matchbox cars to me. But WTF do I know I'm no safety engineer.

Exactly, NR2003 damage looks so realistic right now

The only intermediate track that sucked even with NextGen was Texas, but we already know Texas sucks, no matter what goes there.

It's the composite bodies. Had they stuck with sheet metal, the damage would be persistent to the point where it could lead to further issues. The composite body all but eliminated that.

Really, the main concern with the car is the suspension parts being made of glass.

What was the issue in testing that led to people speculating the new car would lead to fatals anyway? :?

Too much energy going through the dummy and killing it.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

the chassis / front & rear clips are MUCH more rigid & straight on the NextGen. Unlike the old chassis & the CoT - all portions of the front & rear clips are built out of square tubing as well. Back when the industry had massive safety concerns, they ended up cut slits into the tubes so it gives a tick more - but it still doesn't go around the fact the design + large use of square tubing will be harder to bend on impact

For comparison - here's a CoT/Gen6 chassis (which are in use still for Xfinity; some trying to trickle them down to ARCA)

yeah the damage model sucks on these cars. they're like plastic containers, the cars barely dent or only break in weird places. i'm guessing the driver takes more of the impact inside the car

I wouldn't think it would be this bad, however.

Also, stopping a race to remember the fallen is still stupid, but I guess it makes sense since we're in stage racing.

I didn't watch, so I didn't know they stopped the race for it... Big oof!
I think the 500 always handles the occasion with dignity and class during the prerace ceremonies.

It at least made sense in 2009, since they were racing on Memorial Day itself instead of the day before.

they've done it ever since they started throwing in competition cautions on purpose and called them stages
