Putting this on after the F1 is interesting. F1's on-track product isn't great but at least they're trying to do something about it. NASCAR has 36 opportunities every year to realise that their product is terrible, but they're still sat around with their thumbs up their arses saying 'this is fine'

NASCAR know what they want. They want every intermediate oval to look like a crapwagon-era Indycar race.

I'm watching because I'm still not tired of seeing Larson beat this field like he owns it, but the product does suck.

The fundamental point is that NASCAR is no longer a sport and is not trying to be a sport. It is sports entertainment.

There's more to it when it comes to TV. Dallas Cowboys had a BYE this weekend. I'm fairly sure this fact & F1 race at Austin being on the same weekend are not unrelated.

I could begrudgingly accept this as a business decision, the problem is it's not entertaining. If they want every race to look like a crapwagon race they need to bite the bullet and take another few hundred horsepower out of the cars. Right now it's appealing to no one

If Larson loses the championship to Hamlin at Phoenix through, say, cutting a tire while leading, would the backlash over that be enough for NASCAR to consider any change to this playoff shit? Surely there's a point where people wouldn't like seeing a guy who's been so dominant the whole year robbed of the championship due to bad luck in 1 race. Even NASCAR would have to admit that's not what they had in mind with "gAmE sEvEn MoMeNtS".

If so, I'm rooting for Larson to cut a tire at Phoenix.

We can hope and imagine all the changes we want, for all the right reasons, but there isn't a modicum of reason to expect anything resembling a good decision from NASCAR at this point. Their fundamental nature in the 21st century is to go full throttle with their worst instincts.

Just enjoy the crashes, the fights, the Xfinity races, and the occasional good Cup race at non-intermediate tracks and don't expect anything more.

I love with these game 7 moments that someone can lose the first 6 games and somehow come out champion.

Maybe I'm still a tad bitter about what happened a year and a half ago, but given the almost late 90's Jeff Gordon level of dominance he's pulled off this season, I cannot think of a person who is simultaneously more deserving and more undeserving of the championship than Larson.

You mean the n-word on live stream thing? Beyond being extraordinarily stupid I don't think it was malicious or indicates he's a hardcore old-testament racist, and he's done the right things to make amends for it. IMO anyone who still holds that against him is incapable of forgiveness or actively looking for character flaws.

Some people cannot forgive and forget. It was a stuff up and should not be the defining moment of one's life.

They did nothing when Harvick gamed the system at Talladega in 2015, what's gonna stop them now?

And speaking of Harvick, last year he was basically doing what Larson is doing this year...and was not the champion. There is a growing list of real-life proof that a playoff system is an inexcusably bad way of crowning a champion in motorsports, and we have all the evidence we'll ever need that NASCAR will do nothing to change it.

Like I said, just watch for the crashes.

it would be just like the years denny won 8+ races and didn't win the championship
