As initially posted in the general NASCAR thread: Sandy Montag, George Pyne, Ray Evernham & Tony Stewart has formed Superstar Racing Experience (SRX), with a slated series launch date of Summer 2021. CBS will broadcast the series live on their broadcast network & CBS All Access streaming service - with the first season slated for 6 Saturday Night races.

so for those who haven't seen the articles & press releases, here's a TL;DR:
IROC 2.0 but solely on short tracks (asphalt + dirt) and possibly a road course, Feature race within a 90 minute span with a halfway break. Fully bodied spec cars (in a stock car type format) built by Ray Evernham - focus reportedly is to make the cars a handful to drive, but also allow the driver to have some setup freedom. 12 car grids to start out, which is similar to past IROC fields. The field will likely feature a all-star cast of drivers & crew chiefs from various forms of motorsport with both current & recently retired drivers.

Tony Stewart was confirmed as the first driver in the series. No other drivers were announced, but the series has followed several on Twitter & several drivers from various forms of motorsport has already reached out stating their interest.

No tracks were announced, but several have been mentioned in interviews with Ray Evernham (Eldora, Five Flags, Knoxville, New Smyrna, Stafford, Terre Haute) & the series is also following a few on Twitter as well (IRP, Nashville).

figured I'd create the thread given the flood gates have opened in terms of drivers stating their interest over the last 24 hours:

Greg Biffle is not an all star....

I've read they want to include a road course too, one that NASCAR doesn't visit. so that should be fun.

Here is another article about it with comments from Ray Evernham. Sounds like an interesting concept.

I got hooked on NASCAR around the time Tony Stewart started racing in NASCAR, not because of Tony but because the way the cars drove and raced back then was hugely appealing to me for someone who was used to F1 at the time. They were all about mechanical grip, they moved around, there was actual suspension travel. You didn't spin around when you got too close next to someone nor did you have to back off and save your front tyres when too close to someone. A little dent on the quarterpanel didn't turn your car uncompetitive and a great driver could still drive around the shortcomings of an unideal car to the win.

And Tony left the sport when the cars lost all those qualities, around the same time my interest in the sport too was fading. So I think I'll like this series.

5 drivers now signed up for the first season in 2021. Only known driver is Tony Stewart, but the series did mention that there is 3 countries now represented (USA, Canada & Brazil)

I'm going to guess that the Canadian is Paul Tracy and the Brazilian is Tony Kanaan. Here is some more info on the series.

The random paring of driver and crew chief for each race should be interesting.

Paul Tracy announced as the 3rd driver of the series

early renderings showing a Trans-Am styling on the cars

the fans asked for no splitter, and:

It boggles my mind that after all the build-up about how this car was going to basically be the opposite of today's unraceable splitter-dependent sealed-off the ground shitbox, the very first teaser actually looks like a turbo version of today's unraceable splitter-dependent sealed-off the ground shitbox.

i wish they'd just get some chevy luminas from the 90s and paint em "days of thunder" colors

I was hoping they'd start with a real car, at least to base it off.
Instead there's a drawing with an X on the front. Appeals more to Monster Energy drink fans than auto racing fans.

This makes too much sense. Every time people reminisce about the good ole days of NASCAR, most seem to fixate on that late 80s/early 90s era. So having a series with those cars fitted with today's safety standards would be an automatic win...

...instead we get a car with splitter even bigger than the current Cup cars.
