In result of a global pandemic that has turned the motorsport industry upside down, the egos have been set aside. While other tracks have hosted open wheel + stock car doubleheaders over the past decades, this is the first time that both of the crown jewel championships of American Open Wheel racing and American Stock Car racing have came together. For the first time in North American racing history: the NASCAR Cup Series & the NTT IndyCar Series will come together to host a doubleheader race weekend at the same venue - that being the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The venue - hallowed ground for race fans all around the world marks a few firsts, such as it being the first major racing event under the stewardship of Roger Penske, and where race fans would not be permitted to watch in the grandstands due to the coronavirus. Saturday will feature the NTT IndyCar Series & the NASCAR XFINITY Series running a doubleheader on the infield road course at IMS. Sunday will feature the annual Brickyard 400 for the NASCAR Cup Series in it's traditional format on the 2.5 mile oval. Other racing events are still a-go in the state of Indiana, including those running with limited spectators. Those include: IRP (ARCA + Sprint Cars on Friday), Terre Haute (USAC Sprint Cars - Wednesday night), Putnamville (USAC Sprint Cars - Friday & Saturday) & Kokomo (Weekly show - Friday) Race Information (NASCAR Cup): Track Type & Length: 2.5 mile oval Turns: 4 Race Distance: 160 laps (Stages: 50, 50, 60) / 400 miles Track Record (Qualifying): Kevin Harvick - 2014 - 188.470 mph Race Information (IndyCar): Track Type & Length: 2.439 mile infield road course Turns: 14 Race Distance: 80 laps / 195.12 miles Track Record (Qualifying): Will Power - 2017 - 1:07.7044 Race Information (NASCAR XFINITY): Track Type & Length: 2.439 mile infield road course Turns: 14 Race Distance: 62 laps (Stages: 20, 20, 22) / 151.2 miles Entry Lists: Indianapolis - Oval NASCAR Cup Series - 40 cars entered Indianapolis - Road Course NTT IndyCar Series - 26 cars entered NASCAR XFINITY Series - 38 cars entered Spotter Guides / Paint Scheme Previews: NASCAR Cup Series NASCAR XFINITY Series NTT IndyCar Series Essential Links: IMS Radio Network - (LIVE STREAM) Weather Forecast (The Weather Company) Online Scanner (NASCAR Cup) Event History (NASCAR Cup) Event History (NASCAR XFINITY) Event History (IndyCar) Timing & Scoring (IndyCar) Series Rulebook (IndyCar) Random Fantasy Racing Game (NASCAR Cup) NTT INDYCAR SERIES Fantasy Challenge - driven by Firestone On-Track Schedule (all times in US-Eastern): Spoiler: Broadcast (TV / Streaming / Radio) Information: Spoiler: Past Winners: Spoiler: Track Map (Road Course): Onboard Lap (Road Course / Trans-Am TA1 --- closest comparison I could find to a NASCAR style stock car): RACE + SERIES DISCUSSION THREADS: NASCAR Cup + NASCAR XFINITY at Indianapolis (you are here) NTT IndyCar Series - GMR Grand Prix at Indy ARCA Menards Series at IRP ARCA Menards Series | West at Irwindale NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at White Mountain IMSA WeatherTech Championship + Champ Car Endurance at Daytona FIA Formula One at Spielberg FIA Formula 2 at Spielberg FIA Formula 3 at Spielberg Porsche Supercup at Spielberg World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Cars at Cedar Lake World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models at Cedar Lake ---- NASCAR / General Discussion (Cup, Xfinity & Trucks) IndyCar - 2020 Silly Season Discussion ARCA Menards Series ARCA Menards Series - East ARCA Menards Series - West NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour NASCAR Pinty's Series NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Local Racing (Late Models, Modifieds & Stock Cars) Sprint Cars (World of Outlaws, USAC & more) |

decided to just the same main post for both race threads basically obviously this is the thread for the Cup race on the oval, and the Busch race on the road course. Race threads for the IndyCar race, ARCA race and other NASCAR + ARCA regional events are at the bottom of the main post. |

He missed a race at Loudon way back in 2001 (the one that got rescheduled due to the terrorist attacks on September 11th). He started 663 straight since. |

He didn't run the full season in 2001 anyway, his rookie year was 2002. |

I mean, if he actually has the virus, that's his retirement isn't it? Well, retirement from NASCAR anyway... |

He wouldn’t have tested positive if he didn’t “have the virus” right? I guess his status is going to depend on how badly it impacts him (hopefully it’ll be completely asympomatic). |

Well, retirement from NASCAR anyway... depends on how quickly he recovers from the virus, he's asymptomatic presently & his wife's symptoms were mild level / allergy-like apparently. Hopefully both will recover and the symptoms + long term effects don't worsen to be allowed back in the car, he has to be cleared by his doctors and have 2 negative tests which might not be long from now, or might take a while. There's already folks that are recovered from the virus at the track this weekend (most notably Dale Jarrett, who was quarantined like 3 weeks ago & is working the pagoda with Tirico & NBC) |
