I don't mean TBK popular, TBK doesn't like anything. I mean in general.

TBK likes low downforce, high power racing, and a plate package from like 2000/2001 IIRC

There was a sweet spot when we were all 12-15 and gawking at crashes, then we grew up and everything started to suck

The rain looks to pass through by about 830? Just my guess from looking at the radar.

It's been done since 2016 or 2015. Made my brain think "Ow, so there's a caution after 60% of the race, so we don't have to pay attention to the race until then" and then when we got to the last segment, I already lost any interest on the race. And kinda the same happened with all the playoff bullshit going on. Only really enjoyed the first year. Besides elimination races.

Took me until 2019 to get used and enjoy the races again. Thank God the brain can get used to some things after a while, like this, the turtle package, and F1 Halo.

On the bright side, no more invisibris cautions whatsoever. Makes all those conspiracy theories sound right.

I guess it is often compared to the previous years, so in that way many view it as an improvement? This is the idea I've gotten from reading threads on r/Nascar which probably has a lot more "casual fan" userbase.

On the counter, there's so many rules that makes for a new fan a harder to get into it... Anyway, winning the stages gives 1 playoff point, while winning races gives more. At least this makes those who have a good season be in a much much higher change to be on the final four at Homestead.

stages are stupid. it's not that this is only a tbk viewpoint but more that the the nascar reddit is heavily biased. there could be a nascar race with 40 cars runing single file from start to finish and that sub would call it the greatest motorsports event ever.

anyway stages were implemented to take the place of debris cautions (that's my theory since nascar started taking some shit for always throwing them) but now we still get debris cautions anyway. why not just make a rule to throw a caution every 20 laps, you'll eventually get a pile up which is what everyone watches for. if they absolutely had to keep stages, i'd rather they do it without throwing the caution. so whoever is leading at the stage point would get the points or whatever. at least that wouldnt break up the rhythm of the race.

We had that rule about 5 years ago. It's called the Caution Clock.

We do not speak of the Caution Clock here.

Why not just let the race stay green and put the yellow out when there is actually an incident

I'd completely forgotten about that.

The only positives I can see for stage racing are:
1) If a driver has a great race, but fails to finish, at least they can pick up some points from each stage (although the purist in me would rather see a DNF costing you points).
2) We get a couple of guaranteed restarts, which is usually where the only action is.

Things I don't like about it:
- I've not seen it add anything to the racing.
- It adds an unnecessarily long amount of time under caution. This also means that race speed records will never be broken.
- It penalises the smaller teams and drivers that have cars capable of running 15th - 25th every week. They will always miss out on stage points, so consistent Top 20 finishes won't be enough to make it to the play offs.
- It reduces the chance of anybody taking a gamble on strategy. You know exactly when the caution is going to fall.
- It just seems a genuinely idiotic idea.

Stage points are participation trophies. Who cares you ran well in the first 3rd of a race. If I crash a plane on landing, does anyone care how awesome my takeoff was?

tv loves that for the sake of ad breaks which means stage racing will be on forever

I think the long and short of it is, NASCAR races have always been far too long

Even in the good old days, the drivers would spend the first third to the first half of the race working on their cars, then the real racing would begin with something like 100 to go

Even Malcolm in the Middle makes a joke about this on their episode that takes place at a NASCAR race

As there suddenly became more competition on a Sunday and attention spans dwindled, NASCAR felt they had to make changes.

Reduce the race length? Nope

Make the cars more Racy so there's action all the way through? Nope

How about bring in bullshit "finishes" and restarts which guarantees false action and also gives the TV Networks time to plan even more ads than normal. THAT'LL DO IT!
