Well, it didn't take long for the first race back after the COVID-19 outbreak for things to get weird
Quote:
Michael Donavan Avin, 46, of Darlington, left a threatening telephone message at the Darlington Raceway on April 27, investigators say.

Warrants allege Avin had written a letter to another location within the county stating he had access to 125 tons of bomb-making materials.

Anyway... Looking forward for a double header, and also starting the race with zero practice, at Darlington of all the places....

And this might be nice to watch:

125 tons sounds plausible

I still think this no-practice approach is going to be a derpfest. Green track, nobody's raced a stock car in two months, no chance to at least check setups for tire rubs/suspension travel. Very ambitious, IMO.

Agreed. What harm would a 20 min warm up session do? I assume there will be numerous competition cautions. Have they announced that yet?

Every time we predict a TBK-FUNRACE style 1st turn, it ends up being the opposite

In reality, without practice the drivers will be extra cautious and, if anything, be treating the first half to three quarters of the race as their test session to dial in the cars, and we'll be lucky to get any actual racing in the last 25 laps or so...

The competition cautions will occur at or around the following laps:

May 17: Cup Series, Darlington: Lap 30
May 19: Xfinity Series, Darlington: Lap 15
May 20: Cup Series, Darlington: TBD

So if the field gets spread out, are they gonna blame it on social distancing? :tumble:

Coming next: 200 more replays of Newman's Daytona crash, because today's race won't have nearly as much action and we want to impress the new fans stuck watching this.
