Jesus Fuck, there's a white truck in the background here (out of frame in the live shot but you can see it in the replays) that does the hugest splitter wheelie there has been and is then on fire when it lands, can't believe I didn't notice this until now...

Why does NASCAR still have a hard-on for the splitter anyway? Even commentators and drivers have been saying for a while it needs to go.

So apparently some fool accidentally set his camper and truck on fire on the last lap of the Xfinity race. I was on pit road and a lot of folks in the pits - crew members, emergency personnel, photogs and the like - started freaking out when they saw a huge cloud of black smoke start rising from turn four.

This has been grawing at me ever since it was introduced. It does no good whatsoever. It's finicky to setup and race with in dirty air, and incapacitates the race car at the drop of a hat compared to the old valance which teams could still repair on pit road. I dunno, it's just one of those things in NASCAR that's everyone's able to see except NASCAR themselves.

The way the crowds looked yesterday, you might have the whole turn to yourself.

I'll tune in just to see how this package races here. My expectations are very low, so anything half decent will be a bonus.

Were the cars close to flat out in practice? If it's easily flat out, then we could get some packs. If it's not quite flat out, then I expect dirty air to make it very single file and spread out. I miss the days where the cars used to slide all over the place at Atlanta.

Fox has definitely got the message this package will be a success no matter what

No more just following the leader around, they're cutting to the action, even if it's for 20th...

Few laps of racing after the start until it all gets strung out... so basically the same as last year but slower
