I'm surprised at how slow the Cup cars are though. Pole speed about 4 MPH slower than the last time they ran this layout.

I know 75 HP is a big dropoff (if I have my details right) but I figured the brakes/mechanical grip would more than make up for that on a track like this. I expect the bigger dropoff at places like Watkins Glen and Road America.

I wonder if the track surface has gotten more worn out and slicker in the last few years too.

the newer tires for the Cup cars don't like the General Tire (Hoosier) rubber used by the ARCA cars apparently, so it made the track a bit more slick during practice and early parts of qualifying too
