Currently sitting 2nd in the overall Legends Winter Nationals points in Semi-Pro... One race to go and the leader and I are only separated by 4 points (2 positions) If I win the race I'll win the title. Never wanted anything so bad in my life. If you believe in God plz pray. :p

Forgot to say thank you, btw, for the pit passes yesterday. Was a fun day for sure. Now go kick some ass! :flag:

Been talking back and forth with a guy who races here who owns a few scramblers (mini cup, hornet, whatever you call the stock 4cyl FWD class). A friend and I were talking up plans to try and build one ourselves and go racing and this guy has one he's willing to sell cheap. We're planning it out now to have me practice in the car hopefully on Thursday night, weather permitting. Then we can work out the little details, like price.

I got to looking at one of my local track's schedule for this year and seen where they are having an X1R Pro Cup (used to be Hooters Pro Cup) series race there in October, and got all excited. Then I did some research over the last several years of the series, and there are only at most 15 cars showing up for every race. The first race this year, which was won by local driver to these parts, Caleb Holman had only 8 cars in it. What the hell has happened to this series?! It used to be so good and now it's apparently turned to complete shit! :(

I think losing Hooters and their tv deal with Speed hurt the series a lot.

Bingo. Ask the World of Outlaws about losing the TNN TV deal 15 or so years ago. I dare say that only now are the races outside of Sprint Car country recovering to respectable field sizes.

TV money brings the sponsors, sponsors bring teams, teams bring field sizes. Lose the front end of that and the domino's start tumbling.

That just sucks so bad though. Don't guess I will go watch an 8 car field run a 250 lap race. Would be rather pointless I imagine.

Remember going to watch them run at USA about a year before the track shut down. Even JR Motorsports had an entry in that series back then.

yeah it was one of the best racing series for a long time and went to a lot of good short tracks. '09 and '10 was when the car counts started going down. I know Mavtv broadcast some of the races after Speed but not sure how long that lasted.

ASA South(I think it was) had the same issue. I was going to check out a race at IRP but found out only 8 cars were gonna be running there. 200 laps, 8 cars? No thanks.

Fox Sports Net broadcasted several races from 2009.

Part 1
2
3

basically this was when the series started going downhill

I imagine people who have been around and watched racing for a long time and have heard of ASA and Pro Cup, buy tickets and expect to see great short track racing and then when only so few cars enter, the anger brewing over. I can only assume all those people who showed up at Indy for the F1 race that year just to see six cars race probably felt that way too.

I didn't know if there's a sprint car thread somewhere but ESPN is running a story called Forged Through Fire about Donnie Ray Crawford. It's worth the watch.

ASA, the original touring series I mean, rocked. I really do miss that series.

Been racing Legends at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, and I have to say it is by far the most fun track I have ever driven or raced on. :D

Yeah! Should be a good time. They had 3 races last weekend so we went to get some practice in for end of the year.

Saturday Oswego opens up with the Irish Jack Murphy Memorial for the ISMA Super Modifieds. The wing cars broke into the 14 second bracket last fall during time trials when Dave Schulick Jr. put in a blistering 14.972 at 150.281mph. Looking like a pretty good car count shaping up so it should be worth the 5+ hour drive from CT. Anyone in the area who doesn't want dirt in their beer Saturday night should swing by The Steel Palace.
