Statement from Irwindale was released today and stated:

"Irwindale, Calif. (February 13, 2012, 1:30PM ) - - The management of Irwindale Speedway today announced that the 2012 racing season has
been cancelled."

Surely the Daytona PCP will be used by Kurt, that doesn't sound like much of a plan for the 32.

Well, he may get caught in an accident during the duels. It's not all about speed in Daytona.

Mike Wallace will drive the 54th annual Daytona 500. Timmy Hill, the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Rookie of the Year, will be at Daytona in his Poynt Nationwide Ford. Hill will start driving the #37 full time at Auto Club in March or Texas in April. RWR has joined forces with Larry Gunselman's Max Q Motorsports #37 for the full season. Bill Elliott to run for NEMCO Motorsports in Daytona 500: NEMCO Motorsports announced that Bill Elliott, past Sprint Cup Champion and Daytona 500 winner, will pilot the #97 Toyota for the Daytona 500 to be held at the Daytona International Speedway. This synergy will bring Front Row Joe, Joe Nemechek and Million Dollar Bill, Bill Elliott together as a powerful pair to kickoff the 2012 NASCAR season. "I am really excited to be racing with NEMCO Motorsports and Joe Nemechek, who has been a friend and respected competitor through the years," said Bill Elliott. "This will be a great way to start off the 2012 NASCAR season in Daytona."

From the standpoint of the guaranteed ROTY win and the money they'll make in the races they qualify for (they would be at the track for the NNS anyway so it's not going to be too much of a stretch), I can see why they're doing it. The Poynt money might not be there next year and that would be Hill's chance gone. So all comments about the quality of the team/driver and so on aside, as a business decision (that's what NASCAR's really all about these days, isn't it?) it makes sense. Shame that the ROTY is so utterly redundant these days though.
