Logano is going to a backup car. Penske only had 2 backup cars at the track. A lot of the big teams were in the same situation.

I don't understand this, it wasn't THAT big a crash, I know they have a practice session today but surely if there's another incident, those in backup cars will have their original race cars repaired by Sunday to use? :?

Nothing in those races made me think "Yeah, that car is KILLED for the weekend" anyway.

Some of it had to do with there being a parts shortage. Some teams have cars and/or extra parts at their shops that can be brought down if needed. The Wood Brothers decided to fix their car.

Be interesting if there's a big wreck Sunday how many cars show up to Fontana. There isn't a shop full of spare cars back in NC nor are there a gazillion parts to build new ones.

I expect a fairly tame 500 if for no other reason than even the big teams can't necessarily afford to destroy cars.

At least we can still see proper Truck and Xfinity race

Never underestimate the racer's instinct/mentality. It's the Daytona 500, and all those considerations will go out the window when it comes to scoring stage points and, of course, the win.

And ARCA on Saturday

I've not paid any attention but I'm sure it'll be the usual combination of about 5 professional teams and then anyone else who wants to show up

he nosed it into the outside wall pretty hard. i'd be surprised if the chassis wasn't bent from the impact

Almost certainly bent the clip since you know, the damn thing bolts on now. Be hard to imagine it didn't bend the mount points on the "tub." So that trashed all of that, took out the right rear suspension in its entirety judging by the way the wheel was positioned and could very well have trashed the transaxle.

How many cars do the teams actually have and what's the backup status for Penske going to Fontana?
