Honestly it had to be neutralised because of Larson's hit. Especially in this car.

Finish line should be projected on to the track so they can all chase it, greyhound racing style. It stops as soon as the caution comes out

Institute a rule that if the wreck happens x feet after the start finish line, the field is frozen behind the wreck but cars in front pose no risk and race to the start/finish line. How can the same sport shrug at the sight of spontaneous car fires and career-ending concussions from minor scrapes, but also feel like the concept of a finish line is a worthy sacrifice in the name of safety?

You know this series is fucked when out of all the races this weekend, the ARCA race can get to the checkered flag AND have a clean last-lap pass for the win without setting off a bullshit 20-car pileup and/or flipperz.

I'm sorry your purism means any kind of action that wasn't a single file finish is not to your tastes

So I occasionally enjoy a race, sue me.

No idea how you can watch this whole race with these cars and think that finish was gonna stay single file.

It would've stayed single file until partway around the last lap, Kyle and Dillon would've tandemed ahead (and nascar wouldn't have done a thing about it despite the rules) and then it might have been entertaining to see if Dillon was going to try and race Kyle for the win or just Biffle the finish and stay lined up so they can get over the line

It was entirely predictable and that's why I'm glad we got a random element thrown in. It's not like they threw an inivisbris yellow, someone had a puncture and spun across the track so at least the caution was legit *shrug*

Random, useless fact time: The winner of each Daytona 500 in a year ending in 3, either a) drove for the Wood Brothers at some point or b) was a 7 time champion.

1963: Tiny Lund (Wood Brothers)
1973: Richard Petty (7x Champion)
1983: Cale Yarborough (Wood Brothers)
1993: Dale Jarrett (Wood Brothers)
2003: Michael Waltrip (Wood Brothers)
2013: Jimmie Johnson (7x Champion)
2023: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (Wood Brothers)

I got my random fantasy pick for California. I didn't get Cody Ware again. I had him for the Clash and the Daytona 500.

That was probably the worst finish to a motor race I've ever seen, a disgrace even. Suarez just spun, just like that? Then a shitshow among professionals, absolutely awful.

That's superspeedways for ya. They've become a total disaster but NASCAR doesn't care.

It's been 6 years since the Daytona 500 has been a 500 and not finished under caution. Splendid.

I only bother with the highlights these days. The drivers are incapable of not throwing stupid blocks and running into each other. Yes, you don't want to lift on the final lap, but ending up in the fence isn't great for your chances either.

actually more than 500 miles given they keep doing overtime and thus more laps than the intended 200

For the purists, this 500 had the perfect build-up during a long green flag period. Just to have all thrown into the trash with a very lame caution, followed up by one of the biggest wreck fests. Yeah, I can see where all the frustration is coming from.

On my case, we were all hooked, edge on the seat when Kyle Busch made the move to go alongside. Then the lights go out. We never even saw the yellow.

What's wrong with the leaders breaking away and deciding it amongst themselves? They worked their way to the lead and earned the chance to race it out. Instead, we got a bogus yellow so NASCAR could shuffle the deck and create extra chaos for the oinking hogs to lap up. And (unless I'm misunderstanding your point) I can't believe people still think Biffle wasn't trying to win that race back in the day. Those cars required a lot more coordination to pass for the lead, and Biffle didn't have it. The notion that he'd just sit back and accept a second-place finish in the Daytona 500 is absurd.

Side note: Unless it's a very recent change to the Cup rules, I think tandem-ing is only banned for the Xfinity and Trucks.

Team mates would rather their team or engine marque won the race 1-2 than risk going for the win and letting another team or marque steal it from them, Stewart made that point very clear. IF Dillon would've done anything, it would've been between turn 4 and the finish line, stinking up the finish

And I'm not sure why a puncture, wall hit and a car stopped in the tri-oval grass is a bogus yellow? NASCAR can and does create fake yellows to spice up the racing, but this wasn't it
I'm just surprised you're not accepting NASCAR as it is now, not what it was 20 years or more ago pre-FOX/NBC

I'm resigned to the fact that it's WWE on wheels, will be contrived and artificial and will just go with it. There's enough pure championships that are the other side of "throwing the green flag and not getting involved unless its for safety reasons" out there that I can deal with both purism and NASCAR entertainment and see each one in its seperate box

It's a plate race and it's NASCAR's biggest race of the year, they're gonna do what it takes to generate headlines, it's a case of accepting that or not watching these days, I'm afraid.
