I was watching qualifying for the 1997 Daytona 500 the other day, and I noticed the crazy black marks on the wall several times, does anyone have any idea what they are from? I'm assuming the ARCA or Dash race.

Some guy on the iRacing forums posted a provisional entry list for the Daytona 500. I keep up with Jayski, all the crap on twitter, and many forums and his list is spot on. I thought I'd share it here for those that aren't able to keep up with everything over the off season.

Was just looking over the ARCA entry list for Saturday's race.

60 Freakin' Cars

If they all actually show up it would be the most entries since there were 65 in 2008. (only 47 last year)

But most notably, #40 Donnie Neuenberger/Edgewater MD El Caribe Dodge :lol:

That is the tri oval and I can't find anything about a wreck there in 1997, might have been something in testing or practice that wasn't recorded. The Rookie of the Year "award" is becoming less of a big thing now, Kevin Conway "won" it and he's a start-and-park.

I'm guessing practice, though Daytona 500 qualifying was held typically the Sunday before the 500. In years past, the Dash race was on Friday, the day before the Busch race. I'll have to get on UltimateRacingHistory or TheThirdTurn and check dates. As much as I despise Kurt Busch, I think it'd be cool if he ran a Days of Thunder inspired paint scheme on his #51 at Daytona.

Well, I'm assuming we are still going to see tandem draft only races this Speedweeks, with Nationwide and Trucks. NASCAR hasn't seemed to change anything on those cars yet from what I've read.

I'm just saying the ARCA and the Busch Clash were AFTER qualifying so they repainted the fucking walls after Saturday. Dash & IROC were on the 14th so it had to happen during practice as mcclaren said. At this point who gives a shit. We'll never know what happened.

I just got a tweet back from Bob Dillner when I asked about changes to Nationwide and the Truck series plate package. He said it will not be the same as the changes in Cup, but that they have changed some things to break up the tandems in those series as well. Looks like we'll have to wait a week and a half to see.

The #36 team on the entry list is defunct. No driver listed for the #14 and #63, and Fain Skinner isn't listed with a team. Hoping the higher car counts are a good sign for other races later this season.

Was thinking earlier today about how the ARCA race would turn out to be with all the different teams and drivers that weren't there before last year.
