Also, why survive near-career suicide to land one of the best rides, just to risk fucking it all up again because of a douche-canoe like Chastain?

Why, is he afraid he's gonna say the N word to Ross? Those are two entirely different situations.

From a sponsor point of view a lot of different situations can be grouped under "not a good look for us".

I don't think he should have to worry about losing sponsorship over a competition-related fight, but I could also see how Larson would be circumspect about all his actions.

I have to say since I'm not exactly a Hamlin fan so I was impartial on Chastain's heroics last year but it's getting clear the guy has embraced the villain role and tries to stick his foot in the door too often now. One of these days he will get an eye-opener from someone (probably not Larson since even before the N-word drama he was a rather mild-mannered driver for NASCAR standards). I don't think Chastain would be picking a fight with Kurt Busch for instance if that was still possible

Well we know who will sort Chastain out eventually if no one else does: https://www.motorsport.com/nascar-cup/n ... /10469493/

Ross is basically the new Carl Edwards (aggressive style, will fight his teammate if it comes to it, shit-eating grin, cheezy victory lane gimmick) so it stands to reason Carl will be his kryptonite.

I don’t think that’s a good comparison (though at the base level, you’re right that Carl could probably destroy Ross). I think Chastain is way more sincere and way less unhinged than Edwards. The wrecks he causes are just over aggressiveness, but I don’t see him doing anything intentionally dangerous or picking fights like Carl. Edwards is just an outright psycho.

Chastain is more like Swervin' Irvan... Too aggressive. Ernie calmed down a bit once he got to Yates. Ross will too eventually.

Oh come on, you really think he's sincere? I think he's playing to the cameras, and doesn't hide it as well as he probably thinks he does. The "are you not entertained" interview, the massive grin while holding up his hands after he clocked Gragson. He's a slightly more evolved sociopath than Carl was.

Oh come on, how can you not smile after landing a shot to Gragson's face? That's the most normal thing I've ever seen Ross do.

Eh... They're all twats. They're either wooden dorks, or plastic dipshits.

I wonder how Earnhardt Sr. would be regarded today? Laying bump and runs and "just rattling his cage" every race. I don't think race fans in general can be made happy... Or maybe people now just can't shrug their shoulders and say, "eh, fuck it" anymore.

We want personality... We don't get to dictate what that is.
