Well, you can thank Wayne Peterson and Brad Smith for Gerhart's troll-tastic Daytona win.
Quote:
Two entries were withdrawn from the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona after qualifying. Peterson Motorsports (#06) and Brad Smith Motorsports (#26) both withdrew its entries allowing Bobby Gerhart and Larry Barford Jr. to race. The No. 06 Peterson Motorsports entry was withdrawn due to an oil leak that could not stopped without pulling the car's motor. (02-28-12)

I hate that for him. He lost his shop in a fire not 2 years ago and now this. His team was kind enough to give me garage passes for both Pocono races last year and they try to make the best out of extremely limited resources. I just hope they can recover enough to rebuild from this again because they do this because they love to race.

If any of you guys have twitter or social media see if you can spread the word about this to NASCAR drivers, personalities, and other people in the motorsport industry. I feel like if we can bring this to more peoples attention maybe they can get the help they really need to get back on their feet.

Darrell and Sandy are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. Such a shame they can't catch a break!

On a happier note, it looks like they are going to have a good field of cars for their race at Mobile this weekend. There are 43 or 44 cars entered including a number of very sucessful late model drivers from that part of the country like Bubba Pollard, Grant Enfinger, Mason Mingus, Chase Elliott and 15 year old CRA Champion Eric Jones among others.

One of these things is not like the other.

Salem race update (posting from the grandstands). Milka Duno just walked away from a very very hard drivers side tbone crash. It bent the roof of the car she got hit so hard. Very lucky

I read that Alex Bowman picked up his 3rd ARCA victory with Frank Kimmel finishing 2nd. Brennan Poole, Chase Elliott and Erik Jones finished 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Bowman sliced and diced his way through lapped traffic like a madman the last 40 or so laps while Kimmel kept getting trapped behind slow cars and couldn't make up any time on him. Pretty entertaining race, if not an exciting finish. A lot of torn up racecars though. I'll have some pics and video soon.

It was a fun weekend. Got to talk to several drivers as usual. A photo I took Saturday of Darrell Basham's #34 ended up being the pictures he gave out during the autograph session(I made a trip to Wal-Mart Saturday night to print 125 of them for the team). One of the pictures will be on Wave 3 news tonight on a piece about Basham racing after the tornado destroyed his shop in Henryville.

Think I'm going to have to get an 8x10 of Basham & Kimmel and get them to autograph it for me. Will's already told me he'd sign it.

Will got turned by the #09, he talked to the driver while he was still in his car. Product of short track racing, though.

I'm surprised this wasn't a huge pileup with a bunch of really torn up race cars. They were racing up towards the front.

A spectacular crash early in the race involving Nelson Canache and John Blankenship. Wheel hopping and wall crunching!

And here are some shots I took of the Duno crash.
