Community is an awful, awful show that a lot of people like, including a lot of my friends that more or less share my sense of humour. I've watched a few episodes, and haven't lol'd at anything yet. It's silly - not funny.

That's a common theme, though - genuinely good shows get canceled, while the junk somehow manages to hang around.

Kinda like how great tracks (Rockingham, Atlanta, etc) lose dates, while the shitty cookie-cutters (Kansas, Las Vegas, Chicago) get more dates AND repaves. Nothing like a super-smooth surface to kill any potential there might be for an interesting race.

The cars seem too stable, too easy to drive, as well. Too close to the ground.

Bah, I'm not in the mood to rant right now, even though I probably could. I was just watching old clips, then got grumpy at how racing today is completely different than how it was when I fell in love with it.

I initially scoffed at the idea of this particular thread, but hey, I'm thankful for somewhere to vent.

I'll ask this question again: why did NASCAR leave IRP for Indy? It's a bad idea from the start and the crowd isn't helping matters either (50,000 in a facility that can handle 500,000? Fuck that).

No $$$$$ to lose

NASCAR and IMS don't care about attendance figures if the TV networks and existing contracts can pay the track to
overcome poor attendance and actually profit, regardless.

Plus, companion weekends are a network's dream with double the resources to cover two events, and ratings have been steady. People still watch, and thus, venue marketing isn't as needed as it once was no matter the track.

I pulled up the 1997 running of the Busch race at IRP and even with Randy Lajoie dominating it was far more entertaining than Nationwide at Indy.

NASCAR could sell DVDs of this weekend's races at IMS as OTC cures for insomnia. I slept during the last half of yesterday's NW race, had the Cup race on today for noise.

I tried to watch the Cup race, but I simply could not force my eyes to stay open... Even with a cup of coffee and cigarettes.

Watching that Cup race.... Man it'll make things easier when football is back. This past Sunday was the last Sunday with no football until the week after the Super Bowl next Feb. Next Sunday is the HoF game with Miami vs Dallas. Yes I know it's preseason but at least they all don't follow each other around the field for 3 hours.

Some good points, but missing the fact that the new cars just suck for racing. It really can't be that hard to alter the splitter/wings/tyres so that everyone isn't so dependent on clean air.

That race tonight is like your typical IndyCar race in the Barnhart era...only things missing is Marlins-level crowds and low TV ratings.

It has been clear to me what MWR did last night is blatant .

MWR went full-on team orders. They spun one of their own cars, then parked both.

Although I like Truex, that was pretty pathetic by MWR to manipulate the race so much to cause him to make the Chase. Honestly, I think Nascar needs to do something big to prove that teams cannot do this in the future. Not only did they benefit their own driver, but they took two drivers completely out of the championship to benefit that driver, and that's the part that bothers me. Unfortunately, I doubt much will be done besides fines and maybe probation for the crew chiefs, if even that. IMO, they should penalize each MWR driver 80 points so they have no drivers in the Chase (Bowyer got in the Chase by 78 points), and so Gordon and Newman can replace them. Also suspend MW and all 3 crew chiefs/car chiefs for the rest of the year just to send them a message. It's extreme and Nascar would never do it, but it would be nice if they actually took initiative on something for once.
