I think ARCA brakes could have been coined by Joe Cooksey totalling out the pace car in 1999.

I don't remember the last time James Hylton was that competitive in anything. It's strange to see an Earnhardt driving a Ford, as well.

Hylton's transponder probably glitched.

I used to really enjoy ARCA a couple of years ago, but that was back when there was a least a few talented drivers in the series. Looking at the drivers on the preseason testing chart, this race looks like it will be one of the biggest fail-fests in the history of stock car racing. Honestly, I'd be at least as concerned about Bobby Dale Earnhardt as I would about Milka Duno. I'm pretty certain his racing experience is extremely inadequate for even an ARCA race at Daytona.

This quote from an article about Bobby Earnhardt on the ARCA website doesn't fill me with any confidence either:
Quote:
A lawn mower racer with experience in Late Models in Dillon, S.C. and UCars at New River Valley Speedway in Virginia, Earnhardt understands a learning curve is in place.

http://www.arcaracing.com/news.php?contentid=10371

The fact that they called the racetrack "New River Valley Speedway" immediately makes me wonder since that very track has been known as "Motor Mile Speedway" since 2004 which would mean it's been at least 6 years since he drove a UCAR, the most entry level of any entry level racing division. Also, I've never heard his name before in reference to Late Model racing in Virginia or the Carolinas and I'm involved in local level racing in that region on a weekly basis which leads me to believe he couldn't have had more than a handful of mediocre Late Model starts.

So yeah, if you're expecting him to be the next generation of the Earnhardt dynasty, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yes, Hylton's still driving, what's wrong with that? He's pretty damn cool if you ever get the chance to meet him.

Being a cool person and a worthwhile competitor are completely unrelated.

He has shown to be worthwhile. He did almost race his way into the Daytona 500 not long ago.

Not to mention he was 15th in an ARCA race at Talladega a couple years ago. Not too bad for someone in their 70s.

Yep, a few people need to stop bashing him for racing into his 70's after being around for so many years. I mean, he still has the time and passion for racing and he does decent for someone in their 70's running in under-funded equipment. He obviously would run much better in top racing equipment and if he was much younger.

I just got SPEED this year so I'm excited to watch some ARCA. A couple schedule questions.

Why are they not racing at Rockingham this year?

Are some of the races not going to be broadcast? I want to watch Salem, Winchester and the dirt tracks, but it doesn't say that those races will be airing on SPEED.

Here's the 2011 ARCA schedule...it'll show you which races will be televised

Yeah, unfortunately the best races of the year are the ones that Speed DOESN'T televise since they aren't NASCAR/IndyCar companion events. At least Jeff and I plan to be at Salem, Winchester, and DuQuoin with our cameras so you'll get some pics and video from those events, which is better than nothing I suppose.

Wish ARCA could bring back the live video streams from a few years back.

If only they could get a better cameraman (like Markmartinfan, for a mostly independent effort, he does exceptional work from the vids I've seen).

From what I've heard, attendance issues, and Hillenburg pulled the plug on the deal.

As long as it's financially viable, I'd certainly be down for something like that. Looking at the schedule almost all the races that aren't televised are short track races (typically the best races of the year) which would be pretty easy to cover with a single camera.

I went to the April 2009 ARCA race at Rockingham and really enjoyed it. I would have gone back again last year but they decided to run that race on a Saturday instead of a Sunday, which of course meant it conflicted with my job at Langley Speedway.

Yeah, Kessinger and I drove up from Kentucky to Rockingham for the first ARCA race there a couple years ago and had a great time. It was too long a trip to do every year, but it's a shame it's not on the schedule anymore. (Rockingham should have all kinds of races since it's such an awesome track, but still)
