To be fair, they're right. Yeah, don't need to block on lap 4 to win, however, when you're the leader, you can really control your own destiny if you can adjust your lane quick enough (and if you have a fast enough car).

7.1.1.4. Blocking - The defending driver is allowed to run a defensive line through a corner and onto the straight. For iRacing, blocking is a deviation by a driver from defending position based on the action of the pursuing driver. Please see the video example at the following link.
