Time to reignite this topic; just read this on jayski....what fucking politically correct, knee jerk reacting, cock suckers Nascar have become. What the fuck do they think is going to happen?!?!.....A spontaneous Klan rally?? Absolutely infuriating....just like when the nostalgic tobacco sponsored F1 are forced to cover up or peel off Marlboro decals. :x :x It's one of the most recognizable cars EVER.....so that means $$$$$ in souvenir sales....Nascar LOVES that shit.

NASCAR turns down 'General Lee': Concerned over the negative image of the Confederate flag, NASCAR told PGA star Bubba Watson he cannot drive his "General Lee'' show car around Phoenix International Raceway before the March 4 Sprint Cup race. Watson, an honorary race official for the event, was originally told he could appear in the #01 car from the "Dukes of Hazzard'' television series, which he purchased for $110,000 at an auction. NASCAR officials vetoed that because there is a Confederate flag on the roof of the bright orange Dodge Charger made famous in the series, which aired from 1979-85, and the sport is trying to distance itself from the negative image that brings. "NASCAR, International Speedway Corp. and Phoenix International Raceway officials discussed this and decided it was not in the best interest of our sport,'' NASCAR said in a statement on Friday. "The image of the Confederate flag is not something that should play an official role in our sport as we continue to reach out to new fans and make NASCAR more inclusive." Watson, who recently drove the car to the Phoenix Open golf tournament, wrote Thursday on Twitter: "Sorry to say @nascar won't let me drive The General Lee at the @PhoenixRaceway !!! #dreamcrushed." The Confederate flag still is flown by fans at many racetracks, particularly in the South. That rumour was out there towards the end of last season as well. NASCAR did it and its hurting the teams as well...thing is, look at the purse structure for the Nationwide races.....there is literally no difference between finishing 15th and finishing 30th....its ridiculous....Nationwide teams cant stay afloat because they cant make any money....

Actually, it says that Grey was supposed to run it, but he retired in 1977. Grey was more then likely the owner of it - he owned cars in NASCAR for around about 30 years, although other then himself he never really had a permanent driver in his car.

Does anyone else get the feeling that NASCAR concentrates too much on not making the plate races suck?

Having exciting races at Daytona and Talladega in one season means nothing if every other race is, for the most part, a crock of shit?

Or maybe that's the fault of the tracks themselves, I dunno...

It's more that 90% of the hype goes into promoting those tracks as being "exciting".

A lot of the other tracks are fine, but if new fans are educated to think that only passes for the lead happening every lap, and multiple car accidents = "exciting" , then they will feel the rest of the races don't deliver and therefore something is wrong with them.

Anyone who's watched car racing for a long period of time understands that you can't engineer reality to produce spectacular results every time. And most races, be they car, boat, horse or foot, are led by at most, a handful of racers for the majority of the event.

NASCAR generally hypes the shit out of every race... I can understand the need to do that, but it makes the races feel underwhelming sometimes. I know we have to have boring races along with the really good ones, but I don't mind some excitement each week.
