More appropriate thread title since the series isn't shutting down.

The 2009 schedule has been released...

http://www.usarprocup.com/view_article.asp?id=2952

...for the most part, since there's a couple TBA races listed.
Also, Southern National is on the schedule which is surprising, I guess they worked a deal with the owner for a one race deal even though the track isn't operating for weekly racing.

South Boston has two races again this year, including one of the championship races, so you can look for me to post footage from those races since I'm planning on going to both of them, and potentially the SNRP and Rockingham races as well.

Nice, looking forward to your footage.

I have yet to seen one.

I'm pretty sure Benny Gordon will be back but I'm also fairly confident Woody Howard will not since it's recently been announced he will be driving in the Late Model division here at Langley Speedway for the whole 2009 season for car owner James Long.

For the most part it looks like a competitive field and hopefully the car count will pick up a bit over the season.

USARacing ANNOUNCES PRO CUP SERIES EVENT AT LANGLEY SPEEDWAY (VA) ON MAY 23rd

Concord, NC-April 9, 2009- USARacing is proud to announce that it has solidified a venue for the May 23rd date on the Pro Cup Series schedule. The Series will run its third race of the 2009 season at Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA.

"We are so pleased to add Langley Speedway to our Pro Cup schedule," said Jimmy Wilson, Vice President/Series Director. "Langley Speedway and this part of Virginia are very rich in racing heritage. Demographically it’s a great part of the country to position the Series. General Manager, Bill Mullis, has a great staff at Langley Speedway and a great facility for racing. It’s a perfect fit for Langley Speedway and the USARacing Pro Cup Series."

The Pro Cup Series last competed at the .4-mile Langley Speedway back in May 1998 when then-Rookie Scott Wimmer took the win over Johnny Rumley in the 250 lap event.

"Langley Speedway is very grateful for the opportunity to be part of the 2009 USARacing Pro Cup Series," said Bill Mullis, General Manager. "We’re very excited about the ability to bring this level of racing back to the ‘Grand Ol’ Dame of Racing’, Langley Speedway, and to the great fans here in Virginia."
The Langley Speedway 250 Pro Cup Series race will take place over the Memorial Day holiday, Saturday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, go to http://www.langley-speedway.com or call the Speedway at 757-865-7223.

The addition of Langley Speedway to the Pro Cup Series schedule leaves only one date to be determined. USARacing officials are currently in negotiations with track officials for the July 4th date and anticipate an exciting announcement to be made in the very near future. Stay tuned!

This is absolutely awesome news for my home track Langley Speedway.
However, this is also terrible news for me since this race is on the same day as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car race at Virginia Motor Speedway which I was really looking forward to.

Home track?

I live in NJ, there's 2 racetracks in the entire state.

A depleted Pro Cup field versus the World of Outlaws. I think your choice is clear.

I would have been very disappointed if I had gone to the WoO race instead of the Pro Cup race because I would have missed one of the best races in the history of racing.
...and I'm not exaggerating by a whole lot. In the last few laps the top four were bumping, rubbing, and slamming each other, on the last lap the lead was held by three different drivers, and they went through turns 3 and 4 three wide to the checkers. The best part about it was that the leaders were knocking each other around but they all made it to the line without crashing. Absolutely epic finish.

I picked up this little souvenir in the pits after the races last night.

Image

The race is going to be broadcast on Fox Sports Net sometime in the middle of July, and I'm really hoping someone will capture it since it was an absolutely awesome race.

I have a short highlight video from the night, including a few wrecks and the spectacular finish, as well as a couple crashes from the Late Model race.
I would recommend watching the video in HD by clicking anywhere on the video and then clicking on the 'HD' button.

And here's the results:
1. (54s) Clay Rogers; 250
2. (00s) Lucas Ransone; 250
3. (06s) Bobby Gill; 250
4. (55n) Woody Howard; 250
5. (28s) Billy Bigley Jr.; 250
6. (68n) Allen Purkhiser; 250
7. (65n) Matt Lofton; 250
8. (73n) Jeff Agnew; 250
9. (22s) Drew Herring; 250
10. (13s) John Gibson; 250
11. (75s) Caleb Holman; 248
12. (04s) Larry Barrett; 246
13. (1n) Brett Butler; 237
14. (75n) Ronnie Souders; 205
15. (56s) Brandon Ward; 172
16. (23s) J.P. Morgan; 170
17. (22n) Derek Kale; 146
18. (6n) Danny Abold; 59
19. (1s) Tom Hessert; 55
20. (7n) Mike Hennessy; 22
21. (28n) Wally Smith; 10
Pole: Holman - 84.987 mph.
Surprisingly the Pro Cup cars were slower in qualifying than the Late Models with the Pro Cup pole taken by Caleb Holman at 16.732 seconds (84.987 mph) and Paul DeBolt taking the Late Model pole at 16.186 seconds (87.854 mph). I figure most of the reason for that is the combination of heavier cars and general lack of experience on tracks this flat for most Pro Cup drivers. I'd be really curious to see what the fastest lap of the race was for the Pro Cup cars since they looked like they were going faster than they were in qualifying.

Man, I miss Langley. I used to go there every now and then to watch their Saturday Night program back when I lived in Virginia Beach.
