they do this sometimes at road courses when they need additional commentators to cover the entire track. notice that the commentators aren't all stationed in the same location. the MRN guys probably make for easy backups they can slot in

They had too many commentators and nobody could make a reasonable point in the amount of time they were given.

But you don't need additional commentators for a TV broadcast. Besides, NBC already have 4.
