Chevrolet is putting lipstick on a pig. That thing is hideous.

To be fair it looks far more like the real Camaro than the Xfinity car does. Chevy's original comments about bringing the Camaro to NASCAR were back in the COT days IIRC, it's a far better fit now than it would have been back then. Hopefully manufacturers wanting their performance models in the sport will pressure NASCAR to drop the common template.

Just found out that Josh Wise retired from racing. Yeah, that Josh Wise who drove the Doge car.

Seem that 2016 season was his last as full-time driver.

The only thing "Camaro" about the car is the nose... That's it.

Remember the good old days when teams could put the bumper from their rental car on the front of their race car? I think Kyle Petty did that in the early 1980s. Look how far (down) we've gone.

I'd just like things to kinda be like the 80s cars, where you could actually see some space between the bottom of the car and the ground. http://canepa.com/wp-content/uploads/20 ... car_01.jpg

So not only was the price rumored to be considerably less than asking price but it was only for two seasons and an option.

Anyone think they will actually run that hood on the "Camaro"?

That's what I've been wondering.

Given the incredibly tight technical guidelines, I'd be shocked if they let the teams run a hood with that much definition.

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

Of course, the much more likely scenario (in my mind at least) is that a smoother hood would perform better anyway. So if that's the case, I don't think the teams would even want to run the "Camaro" hood.

NASCAR looking at switching to a air-jack system.

I'm very naive on mechanical questions like this, but...am I crazy for thinking that's a big ask for an air-jack system? These cars weigh well over twice as much as IndyCars and several hundred pounds more than GT3 cars.

Also, it wouldn't really eliminate the jackman. It just changes the job description from running around the car with a device, to simply plugging a hose into the car.

I think it would be doable for a heavy stock car, but I would be a bit worried about a system like that failing, but manual jacks fail too.

I just don't see it going over well with smaller teams and businesses like Brunnhozel who make custom high-end jacks just for NASCAR teams. Even if the air jack were just for Cup teams, it would hurt businesses like that big time.

Also apparently NASCAR is looking into either mandating stock air impact guns or switching to electric impacts too.

The change, which would reduce the number of crewmen on pit road during pit stops, could potentially save teams money, depending on how much the system costs as well as any development on how it changes the handling of the car.

How would this exactly save money?

They've already been doing it for ages in V8 Supercars which are near about as heavy so it's a non-issue. I will miss the skill involved though.

The Jacks and system itself would add weight to the cars though, how much does something like that weigh?

That could be offset, though. I'm pretty sure teams actually build the cars as underweight as they can, legally, and then make up the difference with tungsten ballast; the advantage being that the lighter you can make the car itself, the more you can control the exact amount and placement of the ballast.
