some things I saw in the onboards -almirola blew a tyre and crashed into the wall two seconds before bubba's crash but was able to keep going -aj spun trying to make it back around and got stuck before the pit lane entrance -suarez pounded truex on the backstretch after truex came down from hitting the wall -blaney ran out of fuel on the cool down lap because briscoe pushed him all the way to the pits |

Maybe even getting back into contention when the guys ahead of you take themselves out. |

Hamlin’s 2020 Daytona 500 win is a perfect example of why not throwing a no-hope block is still a viable path to victory. I know it was a bigger run, but it was effectively the same situation Bubba was in: a block is a guaranteed wreck. Hamlin let it happen, tucked in, and was guaranteed at least third place until Newman and Blaney tangled and rewarded him with the win for keeping a level head. |
