This will all blow over soon enough, but there's gonna be longer lasting effects then it appears. I already heard two sponsors are possibly going to pull the plug on there sponsorship and one was in talks to even possibly Sponsor Cup racing when Sprint left.

It'll blow over until Trump somehow becomes president and Suarez gets deported.

Yeah, I was thinking this would blow over too, but what David says above is true. Trump has so many detractors (rightfully) that bigger companies won't want to align themselves with a sport where the leader so openly supports his crazy ass. David Higdon can say it was a "personal" decision by France all he wants, but with Trump throwing the NASCAR word all around at that rally, that's not the way it's going to be portrayed by the media.

The drivers backing Trump is another thing, though. I know drivers have backed dumb Republican candidates before, and who supported who in the past has largely been long forgotten... but Trump is King of all Douchebag politicians with no *actual* political agenda.

Like, deport illegal immigrants and ban Muslims from entering... then what? His supporters think he'll run the country like he does his businesses, but the problem is that most of his businesses have failed spectacularly. It's scary shit.

The rest of the world is worried for you guys. lol

Also, where the hell is Snyderfunn so he can defend everyone at that rally, and remind us (without us even asking) which driver(s) are Democrats?

Yep, I'm definitely in the minority here.

Although I do hope your boy beats the worst half of the Clinton family.

The America that Trump wants to take us back to was decidedly un-Great. That shit is always code for removing rights and placing money and muscle above civility and progress.

You just have to look at the reversal of voting rights in Republican states.

Hillary is a lunatic, Trump is a lunatic, and Sanders is the liberal Trump.

We're fucked all around, but it's an election year, so what do you expect?

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

That's some cop out, false equivalency bullshit. Hillary Clinton is indeed wildly unlikeable and flawed but she doesn't belong in the same conversation as a cretin like Trump. And Sanders, whatever you may think of his politics, is a legitimately good and dedicated public servant. I was surprised to read recently that there are even some far right conservatives in Congress that really like Sanders because of his dedication and sincerity.

Guys, I hate doing this, power hungry shithead mod and all, but could we move the political discussion to the American politics thread? I'd kind of like to getting back to discussing racing here.

How about that low downforce package, huh?

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

I hope that the teams have a tough time figuring out how to get more downforce out of the current package so we can have some decent racing for the next couple months on the big tracks. Hopefully NASCAR starts testing the X-3 v2 package more over the next couple months. Really want to see that in 2017

Yeah. I'm curious to how Vegas will be compared to Atlanta. I don't think the falloff should be as bad nor do I think guys will be sliding like they did in Atlanta. Vegas might be the first real test of the low downforce package.

Post subject:  Re: Random NASCAR Discussion

The info in that article about the X-3 v2 was really refreshing. They're doing actual, real research. They're looking into making the cars not just less aero-sensitive, but examining what exactly makes the cars sensitive to dirty air. Having an in-depth understanding of what makes these cars tick makes it less likely we'll see ridiculous failure experiments like the high drag package again. If they actually get the clean air dependency of these cars reduced to the lowest levels in decades, and make the cars require more braking, more throttle control, and more slipping and sliding... :flag:

The phrasing of the latest nascar yt video was annoying tho.

Something like "despite low downforce package, Atlanta NOT a drag" :slaphead:

if there was ever to be a split involving the Cup teams/sanctioning body, they wouldn't be able tor host Cup-like races at tracks that currently host them.

A smart competitor wouldn't want anything to do with the current tracks NASCAR runs at anyway, since most of them are either owned by ISC, 2 mile cookie-cutters engineered for boredom or have been resurfaced or reprofiled to rob them of their best characteristics.

A cheaper and more accessible stock series running shorter races primarily on short tracks and road courses with a good tv deal is what we need.

And that is the biggest part of it all and why NASCAR knows they have the upper hand... the TV deal. FOX/NBC have so much money invested in NASCAR and ESPN is a pile of motorsports hating shit, finding a big enough partner would be insanely difficult.

I never understood why ARCA hasn't taken off more than it has since NASCAR's decline. It has all the characteristics we bitch about NASCAR missing.

Doesn't help any that a good chunk of ARCA's races aren't on TV.
