I cut my Sirius subscription off the other day, so I don't know what they will say about it this year... but anyway, after this race last year all of the Sirius NASCAR bunch said NASCAR would not add another dirt race because it would take away the spectacle and uniqueness of Eldora, and that by adding more dirt races, the fans would grow tired of it.

Typical Dave Moody and Chocolate Myers bullshit.

So we'd rather have the races at the 1.5 mile tracks. Yeah, I agree. That's bullshit.

Maybe, in order to bring fans back to the Spring race at Bristol, run that on dirt. Bristol is a spectacle in of itself, what about putting the Cup cars on that dirt surface?

as far as more dirt races, I wouldn't mind seeing a couple more. I believe Autodrome Granby up in Canada has been trying to get a Pinty's Series to run on dirt for a few years now. I think they should keep it in Trucks or Xfinity only though (easier for dirt ringers to get a ride).

I honestly can't recall any drama in the history of the Brickyard 400 except the inaugural year when the Bodine family fiasco happened and Irvan blew a tire in the last few laps giving the feel good win to JAFF.

:innocent: yeah, that's why. I guess that reasoning doesn't count towards the cookie cutter tracks the series normally runs on.

To play devil's advocate, there are more options in the world than just dirt vs. 1.5-milers.

I hope that doesn't take into account TV money cos if it does then they're loosing tons already.

After everything is accounted for, vendor projections, TV money etc... they bring home $2 million when it's all said and done. (IMS not NASCAR)

Insanity, really.

Then they need to go back to school and learn how to run a business properly, because if Dover get's only $15Mil from the TV pot, Indy must get a lot more than that (iirc the races are paid on a sliding scale of their prestige, so Daytona get's the most and Indy is up the top of the pecking order), I seem to remember reading a figure of $40Mil, but I could be wrong with that, if it costs them $40Mil+ to put on the race, they're doing something very wrong.

I've got good memories of the '97 race with Rudd winning it driving for his own team, but I don't remember any year that provided a lot of amazing battles.

I had to watch Rusty get passed for the lead late in 3 Brickyard 400s. Fuck this place. Seriously though everything about it is just lackluster. It was interesting when it first started, hell they had I think 3 rounds of qualifying at first and ran it on Saturdays. I'd rather see this date go to a track that has good racing, the fans show up, and one that genuinely deserves it. IMS, as great of a track and place of history, but it does not need to be on the Cup schedule. Its only there because it's Indy, nothing else.

For me to ever go to that race, I'd have to basically live at the track

I sort of remember the '04 race. I think that was the first ever GWC finish in the Cup series.

EDIT:

Here it is. Throwing the caution 100 yards before the finish line isn't new apparently. Also, how about that crowd. "250,000 on their feet." - Allen Bestwick

And the most memorable race for me was 2005 when Tony finally got his win at Indy. Still get chills watching this.

As much as a Stewart win disappoints me, I really enjoyed that cat and mouse duel he had with Kahne for the win. Don't always need a pass for it to be a good fight.

btw I thought the truck race was good. But as expected the commentary was really annoying. like stfu about the truck chase, nobody cares and it doesn't mean shit. especially for those of us who will only watch this one race the entire season

1996 brickyard 400 was the first race I went to of any kind.

IMS is a fun track to drive around in a stock car in sims but those virtual fans are probably asleep too. Just hoping the low df package puts on a better race than recent years.
