Turbos in NASCAR? http://gordonkirby.com/categories/colum ... no473.html

An interesting thought, but it may not be that difficult for the stock car culture. IF (big if however) NASCAR can have an eye on the transition that V8 Supercars is about to make, and how that not dissimilar motor racing culture responds to that, they will have at least a slight idea what that will do to the sport.

2017 NASCAR regs were supposedly going to be a paradigm shift so we'll see. I think the V8 is far more ingrained in NASCAR than V8SC as it's been there for over 60 years now so it'd be a lot more difficult. It all comes down to what the manufacturers want so hope the manufacturers realize it'd be destructive to the sport to make this change.

Turbo's were the in thing in the mid eighties too, then faded out of fashion, only to come back a couple years ago, they'll be out of favour again in 5 years.

No they won't, because now they are actually fuel efficient and cheap.

So they've been testing another lower downforce package for 2016. Over 30% of the downforce had been taken off, and I even saw a couple of photos of cars without the front splitter! The drivers loved it. Please listen this time, NASCAR. I'm hopeful for next season.

Kurt Busch is back, with a Chase waiver as well.

Good for him etc, still has to finish in top 30 in points to qualify.

Fuck those "Chase waivers". Let him run Indy in any way, as long as he finish in the top 30 and wins a race, all should be ok to go.

Good! Should have never been suspended.

And yes, I'd love for Kurt to run Indy again.

Andretti doesn't have any plans for it though.

However, the point of my earlier ramblings: if there had been a Chase in 1973, David Pearson should of been in it!

Great for Kurt, but what exactly is it going to take for NASCAR to not give someone a Chase waiver? They seem to be giving them away no matter the circumstance.

This was Truex's car yesterday. It might be all the black paint confusing me, but I'm sure there's a lot less happening at the front of the car.

Kurt Busch will no longer be the "Outlaw", or at least not have it above his door, which is fine by me, because I thought it was ridiculously silly.

Good. It seemed like such a forced nickname to begin with.

Agreed. I hate nicknames that come from a branding background instead of naturally happening on their own.

"Bad Brad" :D

Nascar with turbos? Oh God, please no!!! For as long as possible. They will sound so much worse. Though I'm sure nothing can be half as bad as F1 does now. And the american broadcast, specially Fox, knows how to make the sound mixing.....

About aero tests, as I said, they are going in the right direction already. It's just that their pace is slow as always. Remember with the wet race implementations? Its a very conservative managment. But they know about the problems and are trying to adress. Personally, Vegas had the potential to be better, the tyre fall off was helping (another thing probably ordered by Nascar to happen). But nothing can happen when 1 car is so much better. Or when he is challenged by some one, he justs lets him pass. Back in the day, they fought for track position much more early race, as I'm seeing in the 1990 season races.
