If we can get racing like that every week I'll gladly tune in just wish they wouldn't crash so much and get the good racing of a plate track without the derpy carnage

Watching the Ware crash, the director decided to switch to another camera right as the impact was made with the barrier.

Christ, Wallace took two big hits in the quad oval. Looked shaken but okay.

It was an interesting race that's for sure. I thought it was pretty entertaining.

Probably the most exciting Atlanta race I've ever seen, yeah

The question is, WHEN NASCAR decide this has been a roaring success, and they will, does this become the blueprint that future 1.5 mile tracks must adhear to (at their own expense, of course....)

I remember as a younger man, how excited I'd be looking forward to Daytona and Talladega
A lot of that was because of the side by side racing you'd be certain to see, but also because you'd only get 4 brief shots of it all season

If every race becomes like plate racing, it'll lose it's unique, 4x a year only allure, sort of like if Indycar announced they were running the Indy oval 6x a season, making the 500 not unique any more....

Seems to be a trend this year for fox cameramen to zoom in on one car during large crashes so that nobody can see what is actually happening.

that's been the hallmark for fox broadcasts since '01

I get the reluctance to change Atlanta, it had something going for it that's hard to recreate. I'd much rather they had ripped up one of the lesser quad ovals like Texas or even Charlotte. But the way the new package is working, I'm willing to give NASCAR a lot more rope to try different things. Having a car that can race makes such a difference to the entertainment prospects at different tracks; I think this race with the old car would have been a disaster with minimal passing. But tyre issues aside I thought with these cars the new track offered something unique and racey enough. Would love to see it with the 670 package though.

Banking change at Atlanta

Dirt on Bristol

Road Course at Charlotte

I don't even know what they've done to Fontana yet, not been following that one tbh, but something

But yeah, it truly seems this is the age of NASCAR shaking everything up to try and generate some fun and excitement in any way they can

The symptoms of a dying sport doing whatever it can to stem the bleeding?
Or just a new guy in charge trying to make his mark on the sport, so he's not just seen as his father's son, but his own man

I dunno, something's going on with all these changes
You have to wonder, what's next?

Let's be real, NASCAR is not going to die ala CART or IROC. They own too many assets and have too many marketing deals; if anyone loses money it will be the teams, but the charter system protects NASCAR from that.

How many of us old farts continue to watch it is another matter. I'll never have the passion I had for it 20 years ago when I'd beg borrow or steal a VHS recording of any race I could get my hands on. But (and maybe it's low expectations) I'm almost impressed how with years of the sport throwing terrible shit at the wall, some of the stuff that's sticking lately is, I dunno, good? The cars are racey, they reward actual driving skill, they seem to be able to take major hits and remain competitive, lower series aren't polluted by Cup drivers taking easy wins, and there's been a recent increase in short tracks and road courses. If they got rid of stages and the playoff shit (never going to happen) and gave them a bit more power on all tracks, I'd almost say the overall product is as good as at any time in the modern era.

Alright, I'm off to collect my cheque from Steve O'Donnell.

Christopher Bell was demoted to 23rd (last car on the lead lap) for going under the yellow line on the last lap. Therefore Corey LaJoie gets a Top 5 finish.

There was no yellow line, was there?

Or were just just enforcing the white line like the yellow line at DEGA/TONA? :?

Just took 9h to watch this race while doing my tab. Stopped with 60 to go cause I had to finish it soon. I really like this track. It's like a dream come true after seeing so many wicked creations on my time of NR2003 SS League. I just hope they keep this unique, instead of making a lot of 1.5 tracks like this.

That's...honestly my view as well. Except that I'm...indifferent.

As in...yes, it was intense, but like you said, I don't want this everywhere. It's a good thing this car doesn't spew out as much dirty air as the previous chassis amid a regulation change because otherwise, the mass amount of lead changes don't happen.
