You know, some of the Hendrick testing schemes would make pretty nice regular paint schemes IMO.

^^^ What he said... If you think NASCAR doesn't recognize how HUGE of a story it would be for the #3 to be on pole in its Daytona return you're crazy! Might even win a Duel 150...

I will be shocked if Dillon isn't on pole for the 500. I mean, it's the #3 car, and the number means EVERYTHING!! :o

My take from the first session: The RCR, Gibbs and Penske cars look fast. Surprised the Roush and Petty cars weren't faster than mid-pack. Don't know why Jeff Burton didn't run, I know he's scheduled to test.

I believe they said in the broadcast that he was testing in Smyrna. Not sure why he'd do that unless he's helping his nephew Jeb with late model stuff.

Jeff Burton's son, Harrison, races late models. That might be who he was testing with.

Changes Coming to Cup qualifying: The Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series each will change its qualifying format this season, doing away with single-car runs, NASCAR confirmed Friday. Robin Pemberton, vice president of competition, announced the change but would not reveal details. He said that format changes will be announced later this month - among several moves NASCAR is expected to announce throughout January. Pemberton said that the changes in both series qualifying formats would include the season-opening races at Daytona International Speedway. NASCAR won't say if the format will change to qualifying races, group qualifying, the knock-out qualifying system used in Formula 1 or some other format instead of running one car at a time on the track. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series also is expected to have changes made to its qualifying procedure this season. Pemberton said the Daytona 500 qualifying format for the Cup series will remain the same with single-car runs on Feb. 16 on the Budweiser Duel at Daytona on Feb. 20.(Motor Racing Network)(1-11-2014)

Random Draw imo. NORM could get the pole in the truck series!

Michael Waltrip said he was running one of their cars over there to get a handle on the short track package for this year while Mikey and Bowyer tested Daytona.

Some Breaking News...VP of competition Robin Pemberton says NASCAR told Nationwide and trucks teams they will police tandem drafting at Daytona and Talladega thus meaning if you push someone you will be black flagged.

Seen this on Facebook.

Stupid idea.

Unless you're a big name and they'll turn a blind eye while making bad calls on lesser known drivers.

Judging by the speeds, the Nationwide guys have already done some drafting this afternoon.

Topping out at a whopping 187mph.

Should be 197… I think 175mph qualifying speeds are absolutely a joke at Daytona and Talladega.

Is a bump still ok? As much as I hate tandem racing (if you call an obligatory last lap pile up 'racing'), it seems stupid to try and police. Let them get around the track as they choose. Within reason...

They were interviewing Sadler and he said that they're allowed to bump, just not lock bumpers and push. Both cars would be black flagged if they were tandem drafting.

Because last time NASCAR policed two car tangos it ended soooo well.

Sadler said even if its coming to the line both cars would be black flagged...I can see a lot of crashes being caused by drivers trying to come up with a different way of bump drafting without "latching on"
