I think Kenseth just stopped dragging the brake at some point and it separated them.

Impressive that they all got to the line. It was about time they finished one without an air-disaster debris-field.

Glad there was no aeroplane crash but it's a shame the race for the lead wasn't better.

Daytona. An opportunity race. A cup driver wins. :(

All the Cup drivers have worked out how to break the tandem if they're the guy in front, so there's no chance of any passes like that on the last lap, unless there's other cars alongside or you just wreck the guy in front as Kes did in February.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Has 2013 been the worst year in recent memory? Besides the Talladega marathon weekend, everything has just been depressing to watch. Im talkin about all three series. At least the Trucks we're cool last year...I'm gonna go hang out with some girls and do something with my life.

We actually had decent racing at Fontana (culminating in Hamlin's injury but meh, it was his own fault anyway), let us not forget how rare an event that was.

Thing with the tandem racing at Daytona is that you need a couple of laps for other cars to get caught back up and escape out of the big pack. Rarely see that happen with GWC. Amazing race though and a miracle they kept it clean. Nationwide is done for the rest of the year with plate racing, so we can all relax now and watch the more sane series.

California was great. Talladega awesome. Bristol decent. Not a total wash.

I'll say this once seriously. NASCAR needs to get rid of the tandem racing at all levels before a driver or a fan dies. This package is such stupid bullshit.

even though the wreck originated in the pack? unless your talking about getting rid of restrictor plate racing in general, i dont see any real safety differences between pack and tandem racing.

A form of racing where you need to push literally all the way around the track, and the guy behind can't see anything. It's far more dangerous than regular pack plate racing.

Add into that that they give it to the less experienced drivers, and it ends badly.

The thing that scares me the most is that when you have the pack all split up in little pockets and tandems, it creates a situation with great speed differentials. Look at the wrecks in the pack and the hard hits are pretty much always car-to-wall because everyone is bunched up running the same speeds together and wrecking together. You get everyone running the same speed but spread into bunches of little groups and you have a situation where guys are approaching wrecks at high speeds.

I guess I can be pleased that Motors TV didn't show this live and opted to show the National Running With Toothbrush Championship Yearly Review 1990-1998 overnight instead of the (potentially) awesome live night racing from an iconic track.

Right?

Nope, but rose-tinted glasses in 2013 are all the rage. It's no worse than it was 10 years ago, those of us who have been following it that long are just bored of it.

At this point in the season, I think 2013 has been much better than the first half of 2012. To be honest, I think it's been good so far.

I've been watching 2002 Winston Cup races and every track is much better than today. The tracks in 2002 are exactly the same as now, just no Rockingham and a few dates switched around. So its not the tracks fault, its the cars and the heavy aero dependence and lack of tyre wear.

Despite all the bitching, I'd agree.

I think some of the boredom is just bedding in with the new Gen 6 car.

I think the Gen 6 has way more potential for excitement than the Car of Yesterday ever had, anyway, so long term things could be better.

At least with this year's Cup races there's been a little action... last year it seemed like most races would have a few debris cautions and there was nothing of note that happened.

Yeah, I'd say this year's actually been better than most recent years so far. Even Nationwide was a bit better at the start of this season, although it's got downhill again in the last couple of months.
