NASCAR is considering using that qualifying procedure everywhere except Daytona and Talladega. NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp says the field would likely be set at Daytona and Talladega with an "open qualifying session" that would allow for a 60-minute drafting session.

This part is so fuckin stupid. I know qualifying is boring here but seriously?

I agree with your earlier point but at the same time, it also makes sense as plate racing is all about making best use of the draft. What they do in plate qualifying is something a trained monkey could do really and totally irrelevant to what you're supposed to actually do in the race. It's 99.99% about the car.

Then they're all but making it a qualifying race among the cars outside the top 35.

Yes, I suppose that's what it'll turn into while those who're assured into the field probably won't even run a lap (although I could see NASCAR tackling that with a minimum laps that you have to run rule).

Basically giving the T35 a chance at an extra setup run.

There is a rumor that Gateway will be returning to the truck schedule next year.

Here is the 2014 Truck Series schedule.

http://www.jayski.com/news/campingworld/2014/story/_/page/2014cts-sched

The Pocono race will be 150 miles instead of 125 miles. They added 10 laps since the race has gone past the advertised distance the last couple of years.

Rockingham and Iowa race #1 are off the schedule, while Gateway and Loudon are back.

All other dates remain, other than one date shift, with the series racing at Kansas Speedway on May 9 from April, the first night race for the series there.

Brad Keselowski speaks out against baseline concussion testing

Quote:
When NASCAR announced Thursday it would require drivers to undergo baseline neurological testing starting in 2014, it seemed liked a slam-dunk decision by the sanctioning body.

"It’s just another subjective field for doctors that don’t understand our sport."-Brad Keselowski

Not everyone, however, agrees with NASCAR's mandate aimed at curbing drivers returning too quickly after sustaining a concussion. Among those skeptical of the new policy is defending Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski.

"This is not the field for doctors. Let them play in their arena and I'll play in mine," Keselowski said Friday at Martinsville Speedway.

Beginning next season all drivers in NASCAR's three national series (Cup, Nationwide and Trucks) will be required to submit to the ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) test, which measures verbal and visual memory, processing speed and reaction time.

At the beginning of each year, drivers will undergo the ImPACT test. This will be used as a baseline if they suffer a concussion during the season to determine when it might be safe to return to competition.

Keselowski's fear is that doctors will be reluctant to clear a driver to get back behind the wheel.

"Doctors don't understand our sport," Keselowski said, who has never undergone a baseline test himself. "They never have and they never will. Doctors aren't risk takers. We are. That's what makes our sport what it is and when you get doctors involved, you water down our sport. I'm trying to be open-minded to the possibility that they can help us, but past experience says no."

http://www.sbnation.com/nascar/2013/10/ ... on-testing

Keselowski should be fined by Nascar for actions detrimental to the sport. On basis of making a complete ass out of himself.

Brad sure does like to talk. I don't think he's right in this one though. Having someone race with concussion symptoms is a very poor (and stupid, imo) idea.

I like Brad, but I read that shaking my head.

Racing drivers vs those who try to take care of them isn't a new battle though.

He's right, they're not risk takers, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be listened to.
If anything, it means they should be listened to more.

Maybe he's playing to the Dale Snr "I don't need no damn noose" crowd....

I've heard ARCA is going back to Gateway as well, guess it makes sense for an ARCA/Truck weekend there.

He can talk all he wants...until he suffers one himself.

Believe me, concussions are no joke. Rather have none, but I wouldn't want multiple concussions. That being said, I know what I'm getting myself into as a snowboarder. Drivers are in the same category--they should know what they're getting themselves into.

I'm a Brad fan, alright, but he really needs to know what he's talking about...until then, shut up.

Stoked about Gateway coming back, can only remember good racing there. Hate to see Rockingham gone again, likely for good this time.

I heard that. Wasn't sure if he's retiring from Cup only or from racing period though.

Yeah, sad to see Kenny go, but when a great guy like him hangs around with backmarker teams for so long at the end of his career, it's also just as sad to see.

That being said, I hope the same thing doesn't happen with Bobby Labonte, Jeff Burton, and others.
