This seems believable though. Test is planned for Monday apparently.

Those plate races were the best. Regardless of how one of them ended, the second Dega race and every plate race in '01 were the best I've ever watched.

Not saying some earlier ones weren't better, it's just that I only started watching regularly in '95. :)

2014 Schedule News:

The first Kansas race will become night race and will swap weekends with Darlington. The sole Darlington race will move to Sunday afternoon. Also, the April Texas race will move to Sunday afternoon.

I like moving Darlington and Texas to the daytime.

Not sure having Kansas at night is the best idea, unless they can get a better tire for cooler temps.

Actually Darlington is still a night race even with the date change. Damnit. :(

I'm happy about moving Darlington back to the day. We need more day races to make the night races feel special again. In general, I think nascar looks the best in the sun.

edit: apparently it is still a night race. well fuck.

I haven't done a count but I don't see how there are too many night races anymore. Chicago has been a day race for awhile now. Phoenix fall race used to be run at night but is now a day race too. IMHO, any track with two dates should have one night race for variety's sake. Fans probably like night races during summertime too. Martinsville fall race would be super under the lights if they had any. In general, I'd like more of the Chase races to be under the lights to give the championship run that added excitement.

Night racing used to feel special and interesting. Not anymore. Too damn many of them. Plus hot slick tracks in the daytime sun are good for racing.

That used to be the case but doesn't seem like it anymore, does it? The tires being what they are these days, day or night, it doesn't seem to matter much to the racing anymore.

Speaking from Daytona as an experience, it's not really a toss-up between melting in the grandstands in the middle of the summer and having to deal with humidity at night. I'll take one day race early, and one night race later any day. Darlington just seems right in the daytime though.

I remember at one point a few years back there was five weeks straight of night races. That was overkill.

Burton to MWR? Ownership split at MWR?: the sport continues to await some word from Rob Kauffman (part owner of MWR) about the Michael Waltrip Racing Richmond controversy. Kauffman, 49, is Waltrip's business partner, joining in late 2007. Kauffman's primary business is as a private equity investment manager, with his Fortress Investment Group, with some $17 billion under management. Kauffman himself is listed by Forbes as one of the world's top billionaires. Now comes word from people close to the situation that Kauffman may be planning to separate himself officially from Waltrip's racing operations and establish his own NASCAR team. Kauffman's pick for his driver, again, according to people familiar with it all, is Jeff Burton. Burton says he's got a driving deal for 2014 but says he can't say anything more than that right now. Burton currently drives for Richard Childress' Chevy team; if Kauffman does do his own team, it would most like be with Toyota. A spokesman for Waltrip and Kauffman says he is unfamiliar with such a Kauffman-Burton scenario.(MikeMulhern.net)(10-12-2013)

Truex Jr. to Furniture Row? A spokesman for the Barney Visser-Todd Berrier Chevy [#78 Furniture Row Racing] operation says the team is "very hopeful" of signing Martin Truex Jr. to a contract for 2014. Truex was victim of the Richmond (MWR) controversy, first making the championship playoffs in a hard stretch charge...only to be bounced out of the chase and replaced by #24-Jeff Gordon, in the wake of the #15-Clint Bowyer/#55-Brian Vickers flap. Not only did Truex get booted from the playoffs for no fault of his own, his sponsor NAPA is pulling the plug at the end of the season over the controversy. That has many Waltrip people quite worried about their own jobs for next season.(MikeMulhern.net)(10-12-2013)

Truex to the 78 would be a good fit. Idk about that whole MWR split deal though.... Again this is the great Mike Mulhern reporting...

Furniture Row needs someone super-aggressive, like Kurt Busch, to keep up the momentum. Truex? Nah. Burton neither. When they lost the opportunity to have JPM, all their hope was lost. They will revert to be midfielders again next year I reckon.

Apparently the roof and spoiler wickers aren't going to be used for the plate tracks... They're considering using them on the 1.5 mile tracks to try and make the racing better. That's one of the things they are testing with at CMS today.
