NRA to sponsor April race at Texas: Texas Motor Speedway and the National Rifle Association have signed a one-year agreement with a renewal option for America's oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group to serve as the title sponsor for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on April 13, speedway president Eddie Gossage announced Monday. The annual spring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway will be retitled the "NRA 500" and serve as the first prime-time Saturday evening race of this season. The NRA replaces Samsung Mobile, which had served as the title sponsor of this race since 2002. Gossage made the announcement and unveiled the race logo during Texas Motor Speedway's annual Media Day held in the Grand Ballroom of The Speedway Club.

"The NRA has been involved in the sport for several years and a partner of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. for many years in various aspects, and this race entitlement is just another extension of that business relationship," Gossage said. "We look forward to another successful partnership with the NRA for our April race week of activities."

The NRA has had a relationship with the NASCAR industry for more than a decade on a variety of platforms. The organization continues to be a generous supporter of SMI's Speedway Children's Charities and its fund-raising events since 2000. The NRA has contributed more than $500,000 to the Texas Chapter of SCC at Texas Motor Speedway alone.

NRA's most recent race entitlement in the sport came last season when the organization was the title sponsor for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race known as the "NRA American Warrior 300" that was held Sept. 1 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR owner Richard Childress is a current NRA board member and team owners and drivers have donated sponsor space on their cars to support the NRA in the past.

NRA Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre was unable to attend the event in person, but did provide a video message for the Media Day audience. "The NRA 500 is the latest announcement in the long history of a growing partnership between the NRA, Speedway Motorsports and the NASCAR community," LaPierre said. "NRA members and NASCAR fans love their country and everything that is good and right about America. We salute our flag ... volunteer in our churches and communities ... cherish our families ... and WE LOVE RACING! On April 13, we'll all come together at Texas Motor Speedway."(TMS)(3-4-2013)

I couldn't care less about SPEED's demise. It has gone so far downhill that I actually welcome FS1.

Noticed Trackside isn't a show listed under the NASCAR coverage. There is a God!

But they had Trackside at Daytona. It got cancelled on Saturday due to the Nationwide accident. Was that the only time of year that it going to be on?

I like you am fed up with all the bullshit Speed shows. However, where do I watch V8 Supercars, BTCC, WTCC, DTM and GT1 now?

I sit in front of a computer all day at work, I really don't want to sit in front of one when I get home trying to stream shit.

I've already lost WSBK to a channel I've never even heard of or have.

What happens to MotoGP? GrandAm? Continental Tire Series? ALMS? LeMans?

They're keeping pretty much all the NASCAR bullshit. Who gives a fuck about Race Hub?

I have a feeling FS1 will still show some GrandAm, etc. But maybe NBC Sports Network will pick up some of that.

Download all the races from Racing Underground, and if you've got an Xbox, you can stream them from the PC to your Xbox, so you can watch them on your couch on a normal TV.

That, and iirc, ALMS hasn't been on SPEED for a few years.

They are showing Sebring for sure this year, not sure of the rest of the season.

And he says he's not paying it. This is what he said:

"We learned a lot. I don't want to be the pessimist, but it did not race as good as our generation five cars. This is more like what the generation five was at the beginning. The teams hadn't figured out how to get the aero balance right. Right now, you just run single-file and you cannot get around the guy in front of you. You would have placed me in 20th-place with 30 (laps) to go, I would have stayed there -- I wouldn't have moved up. It's just one of those things where track position is everything."

Did Harvick ever get fined for calling the CoT a flying brick?

I don't even think Kyle got fined when he straight up said the car sucked after winning the first COT race in '07.

This fine makes me think worse of NASCAR, rather than what Hamlin said about the new car. I honestly didn't even know about his comments until now. I never really liked Hamlin, but I support him for not paying the fine and telling NASCAR to fuck off. The drivers are being being asked in interviews for their opinions. Why is that once a driver has a criticism of NASCAR, they find that as grounds for a fine? Only positive comments are allowed? That's just stupid. I'd rather hear what drivers actually think, not 43 cheerleaders.

Jeff Burton said it's an overreaction on NASCAR's part, expect him to be fined now...

And no, Kyle wasn't fined back then. That's just how bad NASCAR has become PR wise.

Burton is one of the wisest and most experienced guys in the garage, I can't wait for him to retire and replace Ryan Pemberton or any of the other fuckwits that are currently in charge of Nascar. As for this situation, I totally agree with Temiree. Denny Hamlin is sort of an ass, but I fully support him because this is just ridiculous. Stewart and Junior didn't get fined for criticizing the RP racing last year, and Kyle didn't get fined in 07 for blasting the COT in its first race. Someone on twitter said that Nascar seems to think that Hamlin's comments will dictate how fans will judge the new car. So apparently we don't have eyes and aren't capable of judging a race by ourselves without a driver telling us how things are, what horseshit. I thought the Phoenix race was alright, it wasn't amazing or terrible, it was just alright, and Hamlin's comments didn't affect my opinion whatsoever.
