Interesting strategy for the Hendrick cars there for a few laps, attempting to draft the old way.

I want to see a 3 or 4 car tandem and see what happens.

Take a wild guess.

The teams are also circumventing the greased bumpers ban by applying what appears to be slippery clear tape to the rear bumpers... I think the only foreseeable way to end the tandem madness is to change the bumpers on the car so they don't line up perfectly, or perhaps moving the entire radiator opening to the far left side of the front valance.

Unfortunately that wont work either. From reading some of the CWTS driver's tweets they are also sadly in tandems, and those nose's don't even come close to lining up. Just will have to wait for the track to wear down more... Joey Coulter was actually complaining about bumps along the bottom of turn 4.

Cars end up in the fence. It would work in theory if everybody drove 100% perfect for 100% of the time, but it can't be done.

In case they don't remind us on TV (they will):

- The start-finish line is not in the tri-oval, but all the way towards pit exit.
- Cars take about a full lap to be up to full racing speeds.

Quote:
TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Crew chiefs of two Michael Waltrip Racing teams and one affiliated program are facing penalties after NASCAR confiscated the front windshields from all three vehicles on Friday.

The front windshields from David Reutimann's No. 00 car, Martin Truex Jr.'s No. 56 car, and Bobby Labonte's No. 47 car were all taken after they were found to have unapproved modifications, NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said. The violations were discovered in opening inspection at Talladega Superspeedway, site of Sunday's Sprint Cup event.

MWR fields the cars of Reutimann and Truex, and also builds the cars for Labonte, whose vehicle is owned by JTG Daugherty Racing. All three vehicles are Toyotas. Additional penalties for the infractions are expected early next week, Tharp said.

kyle busch crashed already in practice so the weekend cant be a total bust.

i understand the sentiments surrounding the loss of pack racing - i miss it too, but i kinda like the 2 car tandems. its less of a crap-shoot than pack racing was and allows the cars to spread out a little. the nose to bumper issue is dangerous, but also temporary. in a few years the tracks wont be smooth anymore and we'll be right back to 40 car packs. as much as i hate jj, the 4-wide run to the checkers back in april was fantastic racing.

i've been to talladega before and it still gives me dega-fever

I agree... the two-car tandem might be weird, but it's still kinda crazy at times. It's not pack racing, but it'll do, I guess.

Also, I LOL'd pretty hard at the new thread title.
