I meant in the Sprint Cup. They said they wouldn't use them in Sprint Cup.

And it was perhaps the worst-run NASCAR race I've ever seen. Joe Balash should have been fired for that.

Especially the fact that NASCAR flip-flopped when it comes to crew chiefs making choices to whether they could use slicks, intermediates, or full-wets, AND the race was red-flagged when it really shouldn't be (besides towards the end).

And they called that race off too after 2 or 3 people crashed when the rain got really bad.

Racing in the rain at Martinsville would probably work as long as they weren't too trigger happy (unlikely) on throwing cautions for simple spins (inevitable). Loudon and Richmond could work, though I don't know how the small amount of banking would effect things. The only example I can think of for oval racing in the rain is the Summer Shootout series they race on the 1/4 mile at Charlotte with the Legends cars and they are kind of entertaining, just have to be easy on the gas pedal.

I'll sum up my fifth Charlotte weekend like this. What a miserable experience, rain delays really ruined the experience, but what was more unfortunate was that someone stole my bag with my camera in it while I was waiting for them to call the race on Monday. Partially my fault, my Dad and I moved up to get out of the rain, I went to the bathroom and my Dad moved down to our original seats, not knowing that I had left my bag there. In the few minutes I was gone someone grabbed it, and since it was in one of the 50,000 bags they gave away at the race, it was pretty much impossible to track it down and nobody saw anything. Now I have to decide if I love photography enough to shell out a few hundred dollars on a replacement. The only good thing out of the weekend were the winners, I remember watching Buzzie race in the last years he was racing in the Northeast in DIRT Modifieds before he moved south, and I saw David race some when he was just starting out.

NASCAR takes #7 rear-end housing: During post-race inspection, NASCAR confiscated #7-Robby Gordon's rear-end housing and took it back to its R&D Center in Concord, N.C., for further evaluation.(SPEEDtv)(5-25-2009)

UPDATE penalized: NASCAR has issued penalties to the #7 team that competes in the Sprint Cup Series as a result of rules violations committed at Lowe’s Motor Speedway earlier this week. The #7 Toyota, driven and owned by Robby Gordon, was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4I (any determination by NASCAR Officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-10.6H (rear axle housing exceeded the maximum specified toe of plus or minus one degree) of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rule Book. The violation was found during post-race inspection on May 25. As a result, Gordon has been penalized with the loss of 50 championship owner and 50 championship driver points. Crew chief Kirk Almquist has been fined $50,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.(NASCAR PR)(5-27-2009)

NASCAR could never use rain tires at any of the flat tracks. there's way too much stress on the RF with the lack of banking. unless, that is, you're hungry for fatalz
