Current hot rumor around the paddock is that NASCAR wants to buy a 50% stake of GPLBA--the stake left behind by Kevin Kalkhoven when he died in 2022.

ie: NASCAR might go to Long Beach to fill the SoCal void left by California Speedway (and the Clash).

A massive sinkhole has been discovered under North Wilkesboro's front grandstand just over a month out from the all star race. In a primo display of NASCAR publicity spin, Speedway Motorsports is talking this up as the unearthing of an ancient moonshine still!

Sounds like Martin Truex went for a fun ride in tire testing at Sonoma. https://www.reddit.com/r/NASCAR/comment ... at_sonoma/ There was a video on YouTube but it got deleted, several comments in the thread say he came close to flipping.

I was not expecting to read about Cam Waters making his NASCAR debut at Martinsville. I figured he would debut on a road course.

Well, Martinsville is the closest to driving like a road course at least - flat/almost no banking and great test of trailbraking skills that good road course drivers have. It's the best oval to break a road course guy in and get him used to the nuances of oval racing.

He's done some dirt track stuff down under too. Obviously completely different from Martinsville but at least he has some experience on ovals.

Since there isn't a paint scheme thread, I'll add this here. Stewart-Haas Racing posted a car on Twitter that Josh Berry is going to run at Martinsville to honor 50 years of Mobil 1 and it looks stunning.

Gray Gaulding, a part-time competitor in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, was arrested by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office at 7:17 AM ET on Tuesday, April 2 on Misd. Crime of Domestic Violence. Gaulding was released at 12:42 PM ET on Tuesday, April 2.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest to TobyChristie.com.

As of now, there are no court dates scheduled for Gaulding per the North Carolina Judicial Branch website.

Gaulding competed in 11 races during the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and recorded two top-10 finishes. Additionally, Gaulding ran one NASCAR Cup Series event last season at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway where he finished 29th.

The 26-year-old racer has competed in a total of 158 races in the NASCAR National Series ranks. Gaulding, who hails from Colonial Heights, VA, had not publicly announced any driving plans for the 2024 season at the time of the arrest.

Gaulding was one of three drivers that were in a fan vote to drive the No. 14 SS-GreenLight Racing entry at Talladega Superspeedway on April 20. Ultimately, Mason Massey won the fan vote and will drive the Fan Controlled Sports Chevrolet Camaro in that event.

Another fantastic individual to add to NASCAR's growing list of likeable drivers.

Hamlin is becoming the new Smoke, the most outspoken driver along with Kyle Busch. People should listen to him.

I used to know people that went to school with him and he was a giant prick, and it certainly seemed like it was the case in NASCAR too, but now I find myself liking and respecting him as a necessary evil to keep these entities' feet to the fire.

The "attempt of the championship" comment was great. I don't know who Marcus Smith is, he might be a piece of shit. But I do know who Denny Hamlin is, and he is a piece of shit.

What we don't need is "more people like Smoke".

He's doing Kansas as well, according to the commentary.
