DRS n°2 zone would've been better after the hairpin, for anybody who got jumped in turn 6 and has the balls to go flat out DRS open in turn 7 to get the position back. |

*Place here a rant about old Hockenheimring that was wrongly destroyed* *Place here a rant about the first corner and the forgiving tarmac run-off area there* *Place here a rant about not racing at Nürburgring* Hoping for more eventful race than Hungary. At least there should be plenty of passing. And at least the next races are Spa and Monza <3 |

remember in 2014 when Sutil parked the car in the start/finish line and they didn't throwed SC to keep Rosberg lead over Hamilton? well VSC could had done that but the marshalls would still stay in danger |

Just looking at the championship table there and I have kind of glossed over the fact that Williams have just fallen off the cliff with their pace, and the Hulk needs to get his act together....he is about to get overtaken by Alonso in that shit box of his! |

I wonder if they kept the forest section till today and it rained. the forest doesn't let the tarmac dry easily, from 45 laps, half the race would be behind safety car |

VSC in the forest section and allowed to go fast in the stadium section. |

That's not a recent photo, is it? Last I saw of the old track, you could barely make out that it was ever there. But trying to be positive for a change... It's good to see two detection zones for DRS. Does that mean a car that gets overtaken into turn 2, will have DRS available on the run to the hairpin? It might encourage cars to re-pass each other, rather than the car ahead having further use of DRS (see Baku and Montreal). |

That's probably just after they dug up the old track |

DRS on that straight still baffles me. Why can't the FIA get DRS right after all these years? |

The new Hockenheim would be a decent track in its own right if built from scratch, but because it replaced the autobahn old track, everyone loathes it. The old track was always a Noah's Ark engine race, even James Hunt said it. The new one is a real track. |

I liked the old Hockenheim because it had character, some tracks are missing this. |

Scotty wrote: stimaro wrote: JJ wrote: *Place here a rant about old Hockenheimring that was wrongly destroyed* Old Hockenheim was overrated. Was a gimmick, rarely produced decent racing. Monza is the same. 2000 always gets mentioned, wasn't really exciting because of the track (rain and a crazy guy), but from what I remember, was a pretty average race anyway. Rarely any other old Hockenheim races are discussed. Saying that, I'd gladly have it over about 15 or so other circuits we have currently on the calendar. Completely agree, but I think we are in the minority here. People always say how it had character, which it did, but the races were invariably boring because no-one ever actually did anything but floor it and wait for the pit stops. |

I will have to agree that the old track loses some of its appeal since the cars started reaching high top speeds on a regular basis. Not long ago, it was the only track with Monza that provided speeds exceeding 330kph, nowadays they're hitting that in Hungary LucasWheldon wrote: I wonder if they kept the forest section till today and it rained. the forest doesn't let the tarmac dry easily, from 45 laps, half the race would be behind safety car The trees just kept spray fog in the straights. They tried racing it in F3000 in the late 90s, it ended up in a huge pile-up. It wasn't filmed but from what I remember, a car flipped and it was a near catastrophe for a couple drivers according to some accounts. |

Old Hockenheim was just one-of-a-kind. I wouldn't miss it that much if there had been 2-3 similar tracks on the calendar. But there were none. Just like we'd lose Monaco or Monza, there wouldn't be similar (or almost similar) tracks left in the calendar. When India was dropped, that was not a tragedy, because the calendar still have Sakhir and Shanghai as replacements. Of course from some viewpoint Abu Dhabi is unique as well but...it's uniquely horrible. |
