It would be dangerous to let them practice the law, let alone to get them in court.

I would assume that Sauber had best dig his seat out very sharpish or they will be held in contempt of court.

...or they appeal and VdG is back to square one

...or they dig out their cheque book and tell VdG to sling his hook

I'm assuming this case now needs to be brought before a court at each and every country where a GP is being held this year? I mean, a judgement in Australia has no bearing in Malaysia. Rinse and repeat.

Contempt of Court is generally when you tell the judge you think he's a c**t, but in some jurisdictions when you wilfully ignore a Court Order, it depends what the Court has ordered as to what will/can happen, at worst they'll be fined, since they likely will have no-one to jail. The Judge could also refuse their appeal scuppering that avenue (probably quiet likely since the case has foundation in another jurisdiction and they've already lost there).

This is all starting to cast F1 in a bad light, I can hear Bernie shuffling uncomfortably in his chair as we speak.

Kals is correct though, this only applies to Australia (and Switzerland obviously), if VdG carries this on too long nobody will want to do business with him and he will have screwed his career.

The whole safety argument reeks of bullshit. Kind of says it all that that's all they have to go on.

I have lost all respect for Sauber over this pathetic line of reasoning. So by taking their line of logic to its logical conclusion, there can never be any driver changes mid season for whatever reason as the car will not be developed for the said replacement driver, therefore they are a grave danger to every single person at the event, both drivers, team members, event staff and spectators.

Never mind the fact that GVD has driven their car befoe, been a fully fledged race driver for a number of years, also is a fully fledged F1 driver r, and not a random guy placed in the car. If they know that something has happened to him, causing him to become inept then they should tell us.

Seriously I mean I was rooting for them, but now? Hope Renault takes them over.

GP ticket sales boom as Daniel Ricciardo pulls crowds

Big-smiling Australian Formula 1 star Daniel Ricciardo's popularity is helping to drive a $2 million boost in ticket sales leading up to Sunday's Melbourne Grand Prix at Albert Park.

Race organisers are crediting Ricciardo's rapid emergence as a potential future F1 world champion for significant increases in pre-event bookings compared with last year.

"There's definitely a Ricciardo factor in play," Australian Grand Prix Corporation chief executive Andrew Westacott told Fairfax Media. "He resonates with the Australian public. Along with the initiatives that we've worked on for the past 12 months, he has led to ticket sales being up on the same time last year."

The Australian Grand Prix has been focusing its advertising on Ricciardo since late last year, banking on his breakout success in 2014 to attract a bigger crowd and more corporate hospitality sales.

The genial 25-year-old from Perth was the unexpected star of last year's Mercedes-dominated F1 world championship, winning the only three races not captured by world champion Lewis Hamilton and his title runner-up teammate Nico Rosberg.

Ricciardo also upstaged four-time back-to-back world champion Sebastian Vettel in his first season with Red Bull Racing as fellow Australian Mark Webber's replacement.

He has been promoted to RBR team leader this year following Vettel's defection to struggling glamour team Ferrari.

Although Hamilton and Rosberg are expected to again set the pace at Albert Park and for the rest of the season, Ricciardo is among their most likely challengers, especially if his new Red Bull-Renault RB11 closes some of the gap to the Silver Arrows.

He finished second on the track in a stunning debut with RBR in last year's race, only to be disqualified after the race due to an arcane technical infringement by his team.

According to AGPC figures, the "Ricciardo factor" has helped increase ticket pre-sales by 5per cent, with a final week rush for general admission tickets set to further boost the gain.

Westacott estimates that Ricciardo's rise to become a front-runner could add an extra 10,000 to the crowd over the four days of the Australian GP, which begins at the Albert Park lakeside street circuit on Thursday.

That increase alone would be worth an additional $2 million in revenue, supporting projections that total race income will rise from last year's $38.3 million to more than $40 million.

"It's not just Daniel leading to the increase, but he's definitely a big factor," Westacott said. "Everyone we talk to is interested in the grand prix because of what Daniel's achieved."

AGPC tracking of advance sales indicate total revenue will be up by as much as 6per cent. The Victorian government funded a record shortfall of $59.9million for the event last year.

"Everything's heading in the right direction," Westacott said. "General admission sales are picking up each day."

Lucrative grandstand ticket sales are on course to rise by up to 4per cent, while demand for corporate hospitality suites has soared by 8per cent.

Long-time race chief Ron Walker, who will step down as chairman of the AGPC after Sunday, is not surprised that Ricciardo is a major influence in attracting a bigger crowd.

"I've never known a personality like him, frankly," Walker told Fairfax Media. "Ricciardo is unbelievable. When he signs somebody's program, he does it with a passion and he looks them in the eye and gives them that huge smile.

"He really believes in what he is doing, so that smile speaks volumes about the man himself. And he has the will to win.
