They were just a few general examples of excuses used by the teams in the past for other camera positions. I'm sure they will think of another excuse as to why they don't want a foot-well mounted camera :-)

I saw a former FOM employee say a few years ago that in 2000 they wanted to use a pedal-cam & asked teams if they would be willing to have it on there cars with Arrows been the only team to agree to them them do it. They had it on Pedro De La Rosa's car for 2 race weekends (Hungary & Spa) & then even Arrows asked them to stop using it.

They said that everyone has to carry a T-Cam which includes forward & rearward facing cameras, From there they have 4 other locations written into the regulations where teams have to supply a way for a camera to be mounted there but that teams (Or drivers) can turn down a request from FOM to place a camera there or ask them to remove one that was located there in practice.

A change for this year is that every car must have a 360 degree camera placed in-front of the Halo. I don't think they will be broadcasting live though, Although maybe i'm wrong with that assumption.

They were testing the 360 cameras late last year.

I *think* this is for ultra-HD monitoring in the case of accidents, so I'm not sure we get to see it :(

The 360 cameras are something been done by Liberty/FOM rather than the FIA & it sounds like footage will be made available to fans in some form.

The one's they used in the trials last year looked like they were from 360fly & it seems they are actually capable of live streaming so maybe they will be available live in some way?

FOM had a T-cam in a translucent housing at Mobile World Congress.

Awesome! I think that should be the standard housing!

can't they just squeeze all the camera electronic in the car's ECU and make them tinier and lighter?

They had to modify the angle as 2007 saw the debut of F1 being shown in Widescreen, and rather than fit widescreen lens, FOM just cropped and zoomed the original 4:3 shot (you may notice that the onboard pictures 2007-2009 always seemed graining and lacking in colour - this was the reason why). This showed up on this angle more than the other cameras as the top and bottom of the original shot got chopped off leaving literally a screen full of helmet.

I have always loved the in-cockpit cams. It's a shame you don't see them so much now, especially as they would restore some of what we lose with the halo.

Its the teams themselves to blame for the lack of the "mirror cams" as they insist on putting their own sensors in the mirrors instead of leaving them free for a camera "as stated in the rules".

That driver facing cam looks like its a HD cam too. The last few times they ran this kind of angle since 2010 it was always a grainy, poor quality image.

Any particular reason why F1 never uses the standard rotating 'puck' camera that Indycar's been been using for decades? Seems like a no-brainer.
